# Geometric Robot Portraits (UPDATE) Raymond Lemstra Collides Shapes to Create Bizarre Beings By Andrew Robertson | Published 2012-05-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/raymond-lemstra1 References: [brwnpaperbag](http://www.brwnpaperbag.com/2012/05/02/raymond-lemstra/) & [raymondlemstra.nl](http://www.raymondlemstra.nl/) Visions of the future through the eyes of the past envelop these images by Raymond Lemstra. These illustrations of robots are reminiscent of the [A.I. concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/prompting-nowhere) from the 50s and 60s, simultaneously futuristic and antiquated. The bulk of Lemstra's work involves the combination of soft, acrylic colors with the rigid contours of his [geometric figures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mathematically-shaped). The artist's portfolio centers around fantasy or science fiction-inspired characters, composed of diverse shapes and forms. Looking at the series of [robot-like faces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seoul-robot-ai), one is reminded of the popular animated Transformer series of the 90s. Interesting how geometrical shapes can be transformed into a captivating face by simply carefully rearranging the pieces to create something entirely different and authentic. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.0/10 - Popularity: 20% | Activity: 2% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Geometric Art:** Combining soft, acrylic colors with the rigid contours of geometric figures creates unique and visually stunning art. - **Retro Futurism:** Bringing back the futuristic concepts of the past captures the nostalgia of old technology while keeping up with new trends. - **Transformation Art:** Rearranging geometric figures transforms them into captivating art pieces that are entirely different and authentic. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art and Design:** There is a potential for innovation in combining soft colors with rigid figures to create unique and visually stunning art pieces. - **Entertainment:** Retro futurism could be applied in creating new and unique entertainment experiences that capture the nostalgia of old technology while keeping up with new trends. - **Fashion:** Transformation art could be applied in creating unique and eye-catching fashion pieces that are based on the rearrangement of geometric shapes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [AI-Generated Poetic Photo Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emilio-alarcn.md) - [Robotic Portrait Sketches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pankraz-piktograph.md) - [AI-Generated Real-World Transformations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-generated-world.md) - [Creature-Like Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-pink-robots-won.md) - [Human-Made Lamp Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/i-am-not-a-robot-lamp-collection.md) - [Geometric Wooden Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aleph-geddis.md) - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Artful Custom Mirror Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portraits-collection.md) - [AI-Generated Motorbike Helmets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coldstar-art.md)
