# Futuristic Firearm Art Raygun52 Predicts What the Weapons of 2258 Will Look like By Michael Hines | Published 2011-08-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/raygun52 References: [laughingsquid](http://laughingsquid.com/raygun52-design-project-features-52-rayguns-in-52-weeks/) & [raygun52](http://www.raygun52.com/) There is an outside shot that the future of the firearm lies somewhere within the many submissions to Raygun52. [Google](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seed-chair) designer Alex Griendling is the mastermind behind this site, which asks artists a simple question, "What would an [energy weapon](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/la-quimera) look like in 2258?" The answer to that question is "odd" to say the least. 52 guns were accepted for this project, with a new gun being released each week of the year. So far, the weapons debuted run the gamut from realistic to really, really strange. My favorite is easily the multicolored monstrosity with the yellow grip and the tongue for a barrel. Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely that any of these guns will ever be made. Regardless, Raygun52 is an awesome and [creative art project](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1) that definitely deserves a look. Who knows, someone someday could be staring down the barrel of a raygun featured here. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.2/10 - Popularity: 26% | Activity: 3% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Future Energy Weapons:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in developing advanced energy-based firearms for future warfare. - **Experimental Firearm Designs:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating unconventional firearm designs that challenge traditional aesthetics and functionalities. - **Artistic Exploration of Weaponry:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in merging art and weaponry to create visually stunning and conceptually unique firearms. ### Who This Affects Most - **Military Technology:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in developing futuristic energy-based weapons for military applications. - **Design and Manufacturing:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the design and manufacturing of unconventional firearms and weapon systems. - **Art and Entertainment:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in fusing art and entertainment with weaponry to create immersive experiences and unique storytelling. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Futuristic Abstract Musical Instruments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zeta-electric-guitar.md) - [Realistic Weaponry Game Controllers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vir-controller.md) - [Anti-Gun Water Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/antigun-water-toys-jayhayspray20-promotes-change-in-societys-relationship-w.md) - [AI-Supporting Art Projects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electronics-hub-art.md) - [See-Through Medical Device Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cyberpunk-inhaler.md) - [Creator-Backed Toy Guns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mrbeast.md) - [AI-Generated Motorbike Helmets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coldstar-art.md) - [Animated Show-Inspired Butane Torches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/butane-torch.md) - [Sci-Fi-Inspired Superbikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/akiraducati-superbike.md)
