# Table-Treated Sinks The Ray Washbasin Unexpectedly Has the Legs of Living Room Furniture By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-01-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ray-washbasin References: [designspotter](http://www.designspotter.com/product/2013/01/RAY-washbasin.html) & [interior-design.iidee.eu](http://interior-design.iidee.eu/p/design.html) It's common for different types of materials to be used in different rooms of the home, yet the Ray Washbasin challenges the convention with an unusual supportive structure. The lovely [ceramic basin](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/handchiseled-marble-basin) has been propped atop four [wooden legs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/e15) as if the bowl is actually a tabletop. The drain of the bathroom sink has been concealed behind the vessel, making the piece look even more as though it could be found in a family room or employed as a bedside table. It's the deep depression and the [wall-mounted faucet](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sustainable-bathroom-design) and handle that give away its function, especially when it's observed from above. Michael Hilgers' charming Ray Washbasin is light-footed and modern with a hint of antique design. The accenting steel wires that help to keep it sturdy are also very practical as hand towel racks. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.4/10 - Popularity: 34% | Activity: 30% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Material Fusion:** The use of different materials in unconventional ways creates innovative designs like the Ray Washbasin. - **Multi-functional Furniture:** Furniture pieces with dual purposes, like the Ray Washbasin as a sink and table, offer practical and space-saving options. - **Hidden Plumbing:** Concealing plumbing fixtures behind the main structure of a product, as seen with the Ray Washbasin, provides a sleek and seamless aesthetic. ### Where This Applies - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can explore new and innovative ways to blend materials and functionalities in products, taking inspiration from the Ray Washbasin. - **Bathroom Fixtures:** Innovative designs like the Ray Washbasin can inspire the bathroom fixtures industry to create more visually appealing and versatile products. - **Furniture Manufacturing:** The furniture manufacturing industry can embrace the concept of multi-functional furniture designs, as demonstrated by the Ray Washbasin, to cater to space-conscious consumers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Illuminated Base Bathroom Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/antoniolupi-albumelux.md) - [Textural Bathroom Sink Basins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/washbasin-collection.md) - [Collaborative Seashell-Like Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spire-washbasin.md) - [Ultra-Modern Freestanding Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/freestanding-sink.md) - [Playful Concrete Wash Basins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kast-wave-collection.md) - [Marble Slab Washbasins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/piano-washbasin.md) - [Dual-Use Ceramic Basins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luneup.md) - [Hardwood Based Bathtubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beam-bathtub.md) - [Wall-Mounted Two-Legged Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/instable-side-table.md)
