# Vintage Comfy Rattan Furniture Jaime Hayon's New 'Frame' Collection Looks Retro But Feels Modern By Farida Helmy | Published 2014-04-06 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rattan-furniture References: [urdesign.it](http://www.urdesign.it/index.php/2014/04/01/frames-rattan-furniture-collection-by-jaime-hayon-for-expormim/) & [hayonstudio](http://www.hayonstudio.com/design/) Putting rattan furniture back on the design radar, designer extraordinaire Jaime Hayon has designed a 'Frames' collection for Expormim at Milan Design Week 2014. The Spanish designer's new rattan furniture collection includes an armchair, a room divider and a side table. Giving rattan a makeover both functionally and visually, Hayon skillfully updates the classical use of rattan to curve it via heat to mold it in the way this craftsmen sees fit; he also reworks how rattan is made to simplify the process itself and play around with the structure. The end result is contemporary-looking wicker frames that pay homage to classical braiding and give the collection its achingly hipster look. Even though the collection looks authentically retro, with Hayon's modern techniques, the collection feels new and comfy. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.9/10 - Popularity: 29% | Activity: 20% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Rattan Furniture Revival:** Businesses in the furniture industry can explore the use of rattan to achieve a classic yet modern look in their products. - **Contemporary Wicker Frames:** Opportunities for innovation lie in the development of new techniques, materials, and structures that could enhance the visual appeal of wicker frames for businesses in the interior decor industry. - **Functionality Upgrade:** Innovative businesses within the furniture industry can explore ways to improve the functionality of traditional materials such as rattan to cater to contemporary consumer needs. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture:** Furniture businesses can explore the use of rattan and other traditional materials, as well as incorporate modern techniques to design products that are both classic and contemporary. - **Interior Decor:** Opportunities to create visually appealing wicker frames abound in the interior decor industry through creative use of materials, structures, and techniques. - **Crafts:** Craft businesses can explore ways to simplify and refine traditional techniques of rattan weaving and use it to create new and unique products for contemporary consumers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Rare Rattan Outdoor Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bohemian-72.md) - [Rattan-Like Modern Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mua-lau.md) - [Naturalistic Rattan Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ziihome-teng.md) - [Wide Plank Outdoor Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crate-collection.md) - [Durable Designer Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/r24-collection.md) - [Expertly Woven Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wicker-side-table.md) - [Versatile Modern Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vuelta-modular.md) - [Hammock-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palmera.md) - [Refreshed Mid-Century Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eames-furniture.md)
