# Rat-Infested Wallpaper 'City Park' Makes Fire Hydrants and Rodents Elegant By Marissa Brassfield | Published 2008-12-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rat-wallpaper-city-park References: [notcot.org](http://www.notcot.org/post/17279/) & [rarechic](http://www.rarechic.com/product_view.php?id=188) From afar, 'City Park' looks like an [elegant toile wallpaper print](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wallpaper-collection1). Take a closer look, however, and you'll see elements that are far more unsavory: pigeons, fire hydrants and rats. 'City Park' wallpaper is hand-screened and was designed by Dan Funderburgh especially for Flavor Paper. It's a quirky look at the underpinnings of everyday metropolitan life, and a clever juxtaposition between [highbrow and lowbrow culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/what-are-you-looking-at). **Implications** - The interesting wallpaper is made on pewter Mylar and the pictures are colored in black. It is amazing that ordinary objects can be painted into elegant-looking wall covers. The 'City Park' wallpaper doesn't quite look like it is meant for a home, but it would definitely jazz-up an office space. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.5/10 - Popularity: 19% | Activity: 47% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Elevated Urban Decay:** The trend of elevating everyday urban objects into elegant designs can be applied to various industries for disruptive innovations. - **Playful Nostalgia:** Nostalgic design with a playful twist has become a trend in the world of interior decor and beyond. - **Quirky Juxtaposition:** The trend of unusual yet visually pleasing combinations of high and low culture can be applied to various design industries. ### Who This Affects Most - **Interior Design:** The 'City Park' wallpaper exemplifies a trend of turning mundane objects into chic wall decor and presents an opportunity for innovation in the interior design industry. - **Stationery and Paper Goods:** The playful yet elevated design of 'City Park' wallpaper offers an opportunity for innovation in the stationery and paper goods industry, such as journals and wrapping paper. - **Graphic Design:** The trend of quirky juxtapositions in design can inspire innovative visual concepts and branding in the graphic design industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Folk Art-Inspired Wallpapers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/backdrop.md) - [Renter-Friendly Wallpaper Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/renter-friendly-wallpaper.md) - [Colorful Wallpaper Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carte-blanche.md) - [Painting-Inspired Wallpaper Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portals-collection.md) - [Commemorative Luxury Wallpapers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diptyque-2.md) - [Graphic Wallpaper Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/immersive-surfaces.md) - [Gritty Rodent-Inspired Boots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ratboot.md) - [Artful Elevated Litter Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/doggy-bathroom-1.md) - [Statement Wall Covering Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/el-muro.md)
