# Imperfect Pest Control Clever Eco-Friendly Rat Trap Design Has a Few Flaws By Katie Cordrey | Published 2010-07-12 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rat-trap References: [cubeme](http://cubeme.com/blog/2010/05/10/sourisverte-eco-rat-trap-by-elodie-delassus/) & [coroflot](http://www.coroflot.com/public/individual_file.asp?from_url=true&portfolio_id=3452568&individual_id=176320) Product designer Elodie Delassus’ ‘Sourisverte’ is an eco-friendly rat trap. The idea is to lure the unwanted rodent into a cardboard container where it eats [poisonous seeds and dies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pelsis). Burying the dead rat with this container will let the [decaying animal nourish a garden](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vermicomposter). The rat trap design has some problems, however. No self-respecting rat would be contained by cardboard. Rats have very sharp teeth in order to escape from such confinement. Poison generally causes a slow, painful death -- it’s not eco-friendly. Making and using a cardboard trap is wasteful. It would be better to [let a cat do the work](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/biocraft-pet-nutrition). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 44% | Activity: 28% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Eco-friendly Pest Control:** Opportunity for developing innovative, non-toxic and sustainable pest control solutions. - **Animal-friendly Trapping Methods:** Potential for designing humane traps that capture pests without causing harm or suffering. - **Garden Fertilization From Pest Control:** Possibility of creating systems that utilize the remains of pests for nourishing plants. ### Who This Affects Most - **Pest Control:** Developing advanced pest control methods that prioritize environmental sustainability and animal welfare. - **Design and Manufacturing:** Creating innovative and efficient traps that address the limitations of traditional pest control methods. - **Agriculture and Horticulture:** Integrating pest control practices into gardening and farming to improve soil fertility and plant health. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Rodent-Preventative Trash Bins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/group-project.md) - [Technologically-Driven Rodent Traps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thanos-home.md) - [Indoor Plant Pest Control Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/safers-sticky-stiks-insect-trap.md) - [Influencer-Inspired Ads](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tomcat.md) - [Compact Pest Control Plugins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pest-control-repeller.md) - [Self-Cleaning Litter Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/selfcleaning-litter-box1.md) - [IoT Pest Control Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/farmsense.md) - [Microwave Pest-Killing Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soil-heating-system.md) - [Smart Home Insect Traps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zevo-flying-insect-trap.md)
