The data is converted to so-called Rainbow Format" made up of various [geometric shapes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folderdrive) that can be printed onto a piece of paper; that can then be read by a scanner or a Rainbow Card Reader. “The advantages of the RVD are evident, Abideen says. It's cheap (one tenth of the cost of a CD, he claims, while offering 131 times the [storage capacity](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/maktar-minimax)) and planet-friendly (no nasty polycarbonates here). For example, magazines might dispense with the free CD and offer a Rainbow Data tearsheet instead.” ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 35% | Activity: 36% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Paper-based Data Storage:** The trend of creating eco-friendly, paper-based data storage systems presents an opportunity for companies to tap into the growing market for sustainable technology. - **Geometric Data Encoding:** Innovations in geometric data encoding create opportunities for companies to develop more efficient and secure data storage solutions. - **Low-cost Data Storage Solutions:** The trend towards low-cost data storage solutions creates opportunities for companies to tap into markets that prioritize affordability. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Technology:** The technology industry can leverage the trend of paper-based data storage systems to create more sustainable and eco-friendly products. - **Publishing:** The publishing industry can utilize the Rainbow Versatile Disc system for producing and distributing digital content while reducing their carbon footprint. - **Education:** The education industry can benefit from low-cost data storage solutions like the Rainbow Versatile Disc to provide affordable digital resources to students and educators. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Charming Retro Storage](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/floppy-disk-inspired-sd-card.md) - [Biodegradable Storage Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soft-drive1.md) - [Disc Preservation Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cd-box-rs2-tube.md) - [Folder-Shaped Hard Drive Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folder-external-hard-disk.md) - [Paper-Made Circuit Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/singleuse-circuit-board.md) - [Paper-Based Energy Storage](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-battery.md) - [Budget-Friendly Portable Storage Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-nas.md) - [Paper-Saving Printer Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roller-jet-printer.md) - [Eco Eye-Friendly Display Technologies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hannspree-ecovision-paper-display.md)
