# Vibrant Toy-Inspired Furniture The Rainbow Side Table by Nathan Day is Colorfully Playful By Meghan Young | Published 2012-10-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rainbow-side-table References: [core77](http://www.core77.com/blog/materials/nathan_days_rainbow_side_table_jewelry_boxes_and_a_bit_about_jarrah_wood__23651.asp) & [nathandaydesign.au](http://www.nathandaydesign.com.au/) One of two things may first come to mind when setting eyes on the Rainbow Side Table. People may either think that it was created for Rainbow Brite or they will hazard a guess that it was inspired by the Rock-a-Stack toy by Fisher-Price. For those who leaned toward the latter, a pat on the back is in order. The Rainbow Side Table comes apart quite like the children's toy. Designed by Nathan Day, a bespoke furniture maker from Yallingup, Western Australia, the Rainbow Side Table may recall the classic game's shape and form, but from there everything else is different. The top and base are made out of sophisticated Jarrah wood instead of plastic while the donuts are carved from solid timber. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 64% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Toy-inspired Furniture:** Opportunity for furniture makers to create playful and unique designs inspired by classic children's toys. - **Carved Timber Accents:** Opportunity for bespoke furniture makers to incorporate carved timber accents into their designs. - **Colorful Furniture:** Opportunity for furniture designers to incorporate bright and vibrant colors into their pieces. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture:** Opportunity for furniture makers to tap into a market of consumers seeking playful and unique designs in their furniture. - **Woodworking:** Opportunity for woodworking artisans to incorporate playful and colorful accents into their designs. - **Children's Toys:** Opportunity for toy makers to partner with furniture designers to create playful and functional pieces for kids' rooms. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Acrylic Multicolor Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lucid-side-tables.md) - [Dynamic Coffee Table Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ryb-coffee-table.md) - [Candy-Like Glossy Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luis-gimeno.md) - [Cloudy Sunbeam Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sunbeam-side-table.md) - [Geometric Cutout Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/designated-table.md) - [Colorful Contemporary Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/runda-tables.md) - [Video Game-Inspired Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pac-man-side-table.md) - [Playful Wavy Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wavy-table-design.md) - [Playful Toy-Like Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frunchroom-furniture-collection.md)
