# Illusory Rainbow Art Gabriel Dawe Recreates the Colorful Spectrum with a Twist By Matt Ho | Published 2010-11-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rainbow-art-effect References: [gabrieldawe](http://www.gabrieldawe.com/) & [ajani](http://ajani.ca/blog/?m=20101116) Rainbows usually take the form of an arc and are seen outdoors as a result of a natural phenomenon, but now you can see one indoors without the use of a prism by visiting artist Gariel Dawe's impressive [art installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chroma-installation) in Dallas, Texas, called 'The Rainbow Effect.' Dawe has recreated the [colorful spectrum](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yellow-25) by interlacing differently colored Gutermann threads together and then holding them in place with wood and nails. The result is a [surreal rainbow](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/colorama) that appears translucent with a trippy 3D illusion when viewed from a distance. This is an inspiring piece of work that makes us think what a rainbow can look like when it's shape and size is manipulated. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.7/10 - Popularity: 78% | Activity: 56% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Thread-based Art Installations:** Opportunity for artists to experiment with a new and unusual medium for their creative work. - **Indoor Natural Phenomena Replication:** Opportunity for small businesses to recreate outdoor natural phenomena in an indoor setting, providing a unique and awe-inspiring experience for visitors. - **Surrealistic Illusion Art:** Opportunity for artists to create art that challenges the viewer's perception and creates a sense of wonder and intrigue. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art and Design:** The use of unique materials and the emulation of natural phenomena can lead to new and exciting opportunities in the art world, both in terms of creation and exhibition. - **Entertainment and Attractions:** Rainbow Effect-style installations could become a popular and unique addition to indoor attractions and events, offering a surreal and visually stunning experience for visitors. - **Architecture and Interior Design:** The incorporation of illusion-based art installations in buildings could revolutionize the design of indoor spaces, providing viewers with a sense of wonder and delight. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Office Building Rainbow Facades](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vertical-rainbow-office.md) - [Illuminated Curtained Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/making-the-invisible-visible.md) - [Lightning-Inspired Artful Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bright-light-shining.md) - [Large-Scale Pink-Fabric Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/purple-hibiscus.md) - [Colorful Texture Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/colorscape-installation.md) - [Unique Interactive Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-aurora.md) - [Site Specific Mixed-Media Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dreamsphere.md) - [Paper-Made Mosaic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/real-life-architecture-exhibition.md) - [Immersive Light Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/psychoacoustic-light-ensemble.md)
