# Vertically Stacked Storage Systems The Rain Bookshelf Relies on Novels' Narrow Sides for Assembly By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-07-27 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rain-bookshelf References: [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/Rain-bookshelf/2610579) Just because a unique idea is not the logical solution to a problem does not mean that it should be discounted. The Rain Bookshelf is a brilliant example of this notion, with the principle behind the way that it works being counter to the efficient and accepted system. Artem Zigert's bookcase consists of [vertically arranged ledges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ledoux-prt-collection), requiring [hardcovers and paperbacks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/penguin-x-moebe-book-stand) to be stacked precariously end-to-end. With such slender gaps between the crooked upright panels, the publications cannot really be laid down horizontally, but merely wedged side-by-side in twos, threes or fours and covered with more books that are piled on top. The Rain Bookshelf whimsically invites you to rethink convention with its quirky concept and [eccentric execution](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/puzzle-shelf). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.6/10 - Popularity: 16% | Activity: 25% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Unconventional Storage Systems:** The Rain Bookshelf challenges conventional design by utilizing the narrow sides of books for vertical stacking, making room for more unconventional storage solutions. - **Minimalistic Designs:** The slender design of The Rain Bookshelf promotes minimalism in interior design, sparking a trend for similarly functional pieces that serve a decorative purpose without being obtrusive. - **Customizable Furniture:** The Rain Bookshelf's modular design allows for endless customization options, sparking a trend for modular furniture that can adapt to any living space. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can capitalize on the rising demand for minimalistic, customizable pieces with unique designs like The Rain Bookshelf. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can use unique and quirky pieces like The Rain Bookshelf to create functional yet aesthetically pleasing spaces that stand out from traditional designs. - **Book Publishing:** Book publishers can create books with slimmer designs that can fit into unconventional storage solutions like The Rain Bookshelf, creating a new market for space-saving books. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Living Storage Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treevive.md) - [Twisting Donut-Shaped Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hullabaloo-bookshelf.md) - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Video Game-Like Bookcases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tetris-bookcase.md) - [L-Shaped Stacked Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loft-shelf.md) - [Sculptural Bookshelves Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-bookshelf.md) - [Minimalist Bookish Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimal-bookshelf.md) - [Toy Block-Inspired Wooden Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rotating-picture-book.md) - [Flexible Storage Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brickbox-modular-shelving.md)
