# Catastrophe-Avoiding Platforms The Radiation Detection Hardware Network Gathers Info By Christopher DeLuca | Published 2011-05-31 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/radiation-detection-hardware-network References: [kickstarter](http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1038658656/rdtnorg-radiation-detection-hardware-network-in-ja) & [safecast.org](http://safecast.org/) The Radiation Detection Hardware Network is a website with an objective to provide an aggregated feed of nuclear radiation information in Japan from all available sources. The Network -- otherwise known as RDHN and who can be found at safecast.org -- used the Kickstarted platform to reach its funding objective (if you like the idea behind the project, you are still encouraged to donate whatever you can to this good cause). The Radiation Detection Hardware Network came about after the devastating tsunami and earthquake in Japan that nearly led to a nuclear catastrophe. The information collected will be available for everyone, including experts who will be able to understand the situation better and provide more context for people affected in the future. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.5/10 - Popularity: 4% | Activity: 2% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Disaster Prevention Technology:** The use of technology to monitor and prevent catastrophes such as radiation leaks. - **Environmental Data Aggregation:** The aggregation of data from multiple sources to create a comprehensive view of environmental conditions. - **Crowdfunding for Public Good:** The use of crowdfunding platforms to fund public good projects. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Environmental Monitoring:** Use of radiation and other sensors to monitor and report on environmental conditions. - **Data Aggregation and Analysis:** Creating value out of the aggregation of data from different sources. - **Crowdfunding Platforms:** Using crowdfunding platforms for public good projects that may not attract conventional funding. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Ruggedly Intuitive Geiger Counters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/radiation-detector.md) - [Real-Time Fire Alerts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/watch-duty.md) - [Crowdfunding Feedback Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/feedfund.md) - [Environmental Action Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clean-something-for-nothing.md) - [Clinical Alarm Notification Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clinical-alarm.md) - [Safety-Focused Crowdfunding Campaigns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/running-mate.md) - [Space Exploration Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rocket-launch.md) - [Smart Airbag Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-airbag-platform.md) - [Rail Network Accessibility Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/passenger-assistance-web.md)
