# Faux Radiator Lighting Steve Faletti's Radiant Floor Lamp Turns On Using a Water Valve By Meghan Young | Published 2012-04-04 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/radiant-floor-lamp References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2012/04/02/dang-the-radiated-illumination/) & [stevefaletti](http://stevefaletti.com/portfolio/radiant-floor-lamp/) Don't be deceived -- the Radiant Floor Lamp is no radiator -- although it will probably supply some heat when turned on. Instead, it is a quirky and unique light fixture, as its name suggests. The lengthy, u-shaped fluorescent bulbs have been cleverly assembled in such a way as to resemble [old apartment radiators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zehnder-archibald). Created by industrial designer Steve Faletti, the Radiant Floor Lamp will add character to any home. As though concentrating on the word 'fun' in 'functional,' this lamp even turns on using a standard water spigot valve handle, just like an actual radiator. Faletti writes, "It is part of a series exploring our relationship to the objects and technologies that provide us with ample and ubiquitous interior light." It gives new meaning to light fixtures. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 54% | Activity: 44% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Quirky Lighting Fixtures:** Opportunity for creating unique and unconventional lighting designs that add character to any space. - **Functional Design with a Twist:** Opportunity to incorporate unexpected elements, like water valve handles, into functional products. - **Exploring Object Relationships:** Opportunity to create products that provoke new ways of thinking about everyday objects and technologies. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation in the lighting industry by introducing unconventional and character-filled light fixtures. - **Home Decor:** Opportunity to create home decor products that combine functionality with an unexpected twist, like incorporating water valve handles. - **Industrial Design:** Opportunity for designers to challenge conventional notions of object relationships and meaning through innovative product designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Quirky Common Item Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/table-lamp-lighter.md) - [Cutesy Coiled Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-helix-lamp.md) - [Street Light-Inspired Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/standing-lamp-marble.md) - [Vintage-Inspired Candle Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vintageinspired-candle-lamps.md) - [Industrial Oceanic Home Heaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coral-electric-radiator.md) - [Daylight-Mimicking Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brighter-floor-lamp.md) - [Nature-Inspired Living Space Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moonlight-floor-lamp.md) - [Dual-Purpose Camera-Like Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nostalgian-floor-lamp-clock.md) - [Suspended Halo Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lamplox-minimalist-floor-lamp.md)
