# Robo-Masons The R-O-B Robot Builds Walls By Christina Butty | Published 2009-09-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/r-o-b-robot References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2009/09/16/pike-loop-by-gramazio-kohler/#more-40492) & [gramaziokohler](http://www.gramaziokohler.com/) This gorgeous wall was actually built by a robot named R-O-B. Designed by Swiss architects Gramazio and Kohler, R-O-B is set to build another wall in New York later this month. Over a period of four weeks, a [structural brick wall](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brick-from-a-stone) called Pike Loop will be constructed on Pike Street in New York, in full public view. [Construction](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nd-3) will commence on September 29. Could R-O-B signal the end to whistling construction workers? **Implications** - I don't think so. Whistling construction workers are such a common trope of movies, television and novels that I don't think people in the art world would feel comfortable living in a world where it didn't happen. Chances are, they'd train the robot to do it. If only for comedic effect. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.3/10 - Popularity: 33% | Activity: 27% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Robot Construction:** The use of robots in construction projects presents opportunities for increased speed, precision, and efficiency. - **Public Display Construction:** Constructing buildings or structures in full public view provides opportunities for engaging and interactive experiences for spectators. - **Automation in Architecture:** The integration of automation in architectural processes allows for new possibilities in design and construction. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Construction:** The construction industry can explore the use of robots to streamline and automate building processes. - **Architecture:** Architects can leverage automation technologies to create innovative designs and construct buildings in unique ways. - **Entertainment:** The entertainment industry can incorporate public display construction as a form of engaging and interactive performance art. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Automated Worksite Printer Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hp-siteprint.md) - [Wool-Weaving Cobots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flocks-wobot.md) - [Voice-Led Fabrication Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/speech-to-reality.md) - [Vertical Wall-Climbing Inspection Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hausbots-hb1.md) - [Automated Land Surveying Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/civ-robotics.md) - [Hourly Paid Robot Workers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/formic.md) - [Remotely Controlled Grain Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grain-robot.md) - [Architectural Wall Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/humanise-wall.md) - [3D-Printed Neighborhood Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wolf-ranch.md)
