# Mushroom-Shaped Cabins This Quirky Cabin's Structure is Inspired By Ground-Sprouting Fungi By Rahul Kalvapalle | Published 2017-09-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/quirky-cabin References: [newatlas](http://newatlas.com/2017-shed-of-the-year-winner/51384/) & [shedblog](http://www.shedblog.co.uk/2017/09/17/shed-year-2017-mushroom-shed/) There are certain kinds of dwellings that require sleek, formal or traditional modes of design, but [children's cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/digital-house) are not among them, which is why British designer Ben Swanborough went ahead and created an exceptionally beautiful but quirky cabin for his daughter. Named '[Mushroom House](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mushroom-library)' thanks to its clear resemblance to a mushroom, this particular cabin features 'stem' and 'cap' components, and cost only $670 to make. The stem section is equipped with a compact desk area, with a trapdoor offering access to the upper floor. Despite its compact-looking [mushroom-style shape](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carbon-garden-pavilion), this cabin offers a surprising amount of space. This quirky cabin managed to impress people beyond Swanborough's daughter, claiming the 2017 Cuprinol Shed of the Year award, appropriate recognition for a gorgeous piece of architectural work that combines childlike wonder with economical construction. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.3/10 - Popularity: 74% | Activity: 46% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Eco-friendly Architecture:** Opportunity to explore sustainable and cost-effective materials and designs for unconventional structures like the mushroom-shaped cabin. - **Playful Design:** Opportunity to develop fun and imaginative designs for children's playhouses, cabins, and other similar structures. - **DIY Homes:** Opportunity for homeowners to explore cost-effective and creative ways of building their own unique homes or getaway cabins. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Construction and Engineering:** Industry can explore new and unique designs, materials and methods in building unconventional structures. - **Architecture and Design:** Industry can develop more imaginative and playful designs for children's playhouses, cabins, and other similar structures. - **Eco-friendly Community:** Industry can trend towards eco-friendliness when it comes to building homes, homes and other similar structures in rural areas or remote communities. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Mushroom-Constructed Room Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mush-room.md) - [Mushroom-Shaped Village Libraries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mushroom-library.md) - [Mushroom-Inspired Dining Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grybova-hata.md) - [Whimsical Storage Baskets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mini-mushroom-woven-basket.md) - [Book-Inspired Timber-Lined Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hat-house.md) - [Minimal Bird-Watching Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hide-cabin.md) - [Imaginative Mushroom Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/white-rabbit-england.md) - [Affordable Timber Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nature-pod.md) - [Rustic Contemporary Bunkhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/guemes-island-bunkhouse.md)
