# 2D Rubens' Tube Synthesizers The Pyro Board Creates Standing Flame Patterns Depending on Sound By Meghan Young | Published 2014-04-18 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pyro-board References: [thisiscolossal](http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2014/04/pyro-board-an-audio-visualizer-created-with-an-array-of-2500-flames/) & [youtube](https://www.youtube.com/user/1veritasium/featured) The [Pyro Board](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pryo-smokeless-fire-pit) is touted as a 2D Rubens' tube. For those unfamiliar with that term, [Wikipedia](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wikipedia-article-ai) describes it as "an antique physics apparatus for demonstrating acoustic standing waves in a tube." But instead of using a tube, Sune [Nielsen](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oneview) and the rest of his fire-loving friends in Aarhus, Denmark, developed the large Pyro Board in order to create even more patterns. Nielsen says, "We liked the Rubens' tube, but we thought when you put more fire it always gets better." Derek Muller of the science video blog Veritasium visited his team to see the Pyro Board in person. Connected to a computer, the Pyro Board reacts in spectacular ways to a music piece by Kevin MacLeod counterintuitively titled 'Ice Flow.' ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.8/10 - Popularity: 26% | Activity: 81% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **2D Fire Art:** The Pyro Board technology can lead to the creation of 2D fire art displays, garnering mass appeal in the entertainment sector. - **Interactive Music Performances:** With the Pyro Board, music artists can create interactive performances, offering unique concert experiences to fans. - **Sound-responsive Installations:** The Pyro Board can inspire the creation of immersive sound-responsive installations in themed attractions and exhibitions. ### Where This Applies - **Entertainment:** The Pyro Board technology can revolutionize event production and large-scale entertainment shows. - **Music:** With the Pyro Board, music artists can innovate concert experiences for audiences and develop new performance forms. - **Themed Attractions:** The Pyro Board can provide an innovative solution to developing immersive installations that respond to music in themed attractions and exhibitions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Visualized Music Display Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rhythm-light.md) - [Interactive Display-Equipped Synthesizers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/love-hultn-x-lirona-synthboi.md) - [Ferromagnetic Visualizer Speaker Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/van-der-waals-speaker.md) - [Flame-Resembling Outdoor Heaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bonflame.md) - [Reactive Party Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightboks.md) - [Reactive Ferrofluid Display Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dyson-ferro-speaker.md) - [Medieval-Era Sound Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/teenage-engineering-ep1320-medieval.md) - [Water-Covered Speaker Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shaped-by-water.md) - [Retrofuturistic Streaming Audio Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diy-streaming-audio-player.md)
