# Puzzle-Inspired Lighting The Rubik's Cube Lamp By Elsa Blaine | Published 2008-12-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/puzzle-inspired-lighting-the-rubiks-cube-lamp References: [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/Gallery/Rubiks-lamp_/157785) Eric Pautz has taken the classic design of the [Rubik’s Cube](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rubiks-wowcube) and created two versions of the toy as a lamp. The light’s 63 blocks are divided into three [rotating layers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tcl-playcube) that add to the authentic look. The Rubik’s lamp prototype has been built by Paultz in two different versions. One is a modern looking uncoloured style with each side finished in a different texture to distinguish them from one another. The second version is a more traditional multi-coloured spinning block that throws dynamic shadows on the floor surrounding the cube light. I’d love to see these produced in varying sizes for tabletop and even multiple cubes hanging as a [cluster pendant light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aplat). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 12% | Activity: 14% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Puzzle-inspired Lighting:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create puzzle-inspired lighting fixtures for modern and traditional spaces. - **Rubik's Cube-inspired Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Apply Rubik's Cube design elements to various products and industries. - **Dynamic Shadow Effects:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop lighting solutions that create dynamic shadow effects for enhanced ambiance. ### Where This Applies - **Lighting Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Innovate within the lighting design industry by creating unique and interactive puzzle-inspired lighting fixtures. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Introduce Rubik's Cube-inspired design elements to home decor products for a playful and nostalgic aesthetic. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Collaborate with interior designers to create puzzle-inspired lighting installations that add a unique touch to spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Connected Cubic Desk Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yeelight-cube.md) - [Antique-Style Building Block Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-ideas-led-lamp.md) - [Infinitely Expandable Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cube-one-table-lamp.md) - [Colorful Cubic Smart Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neon-crystal.md) - [Foldable Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-folding-lamp.md) - [Colourful Ambient Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ambient-lamp-design.md) - [Modular Brick Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brick-light.md) - [Portable Cubic Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/romb-mini-lamp.md) - [Structural Modular Lighting Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cube-one-table.md)
