# Surreal Robot Videos Putty Boy Strut Features Mechanics Moving to Music By Elise Ying-Hei Ho | Published 2012-09-30 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/putty-boy-strut References: [ufunk.net](http://www.ufunk.net/en/musique/flying-lotus-cyriak/) & [ufunk.net](http://www.ufunk.net/en/?s=cyriak) In a short film by [Flying Lotus](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flying-tiger-copenhagen) and directed by Cyriak, a British animator who specializes in strange surreal depictions has produced a robot-infested universe in Putty Boy Strut. In the short film, Cryiak depicts a [little hungry robot](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airheads-decoy-boy) who begins to catch and consume his kind. This video is a play on the popular Japanese game, Katamari, where the more the robot eats, the larger he grows. The [robotic digitized tune](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/periphery-synthetic) in the back only adds to the bizarreness of the machine devouring its own kind. Unlike Katamari where the goal is to roll and collect as many items as you need to rebuild your lost world, the robot seems to consume endlessly until the very end. I do admit, however, that this is quite adorable, despite the semi-cannibalistic nature. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.5/10 - Popularity: 7% | Activity: 29% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/robots) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Surreal Robot Entertainment:** An emerging trend of surreal robot-themed entertainment highlighting the growing interest in the integration of automation with culture and art. - **Robotic Consumption:** A trend that focuses on robots consuming materials and their own kind, hinting at the growing dependence of machines on raw materials and recent developments in the study of AI cognition. - **Surreal Synthetic Music:** A rising trend of creating digitized music specifically for surreal robot-themed entertainment shows how technology and music collaborate on a new level. ### Who This Affects Most - **Entertainment Industry:** The entertainment industry, specifically animation, can explore new horizons by incorporating robots in a surreal and abstract way. - **Robotics Industry:** The robotics industry can explore new ways to promote their products and services along with advancements in AI cognition and machine learning, cultivating a new generation of machines that can consume, interact, and operate without human intervention. - **Music Industry:** The music industry can explore unique ways of sound representation through the collaboration with robots and technology, contributing to an emergence of a new genre of synthetic music. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Robotic Digital Surveillance Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/accept-all.md) - [Engaging Musical Humanoid Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toy-robot-concept.md) - [Motion Liquid Art Distortions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lidris.md) - [Quirky AI Holiday Projects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-very-ai-yule-log.md) - [Festive Humanoid Campaigns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hmnd-01.md) - [Creature-Like Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-pink-robots-won.md) - [Kinetic Art Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/la-machine.md) - [Music-Streaming Personal Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gitamini-limited-edition.md) - [Robot Character Digital Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/astro-bot.md)
