# Stacked Hillside Homes Omar Gandhi Architect's Purcells Cove House Consists of Layered Volumes By Jana Pijak | Published 2016-07-15 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/purcells-cove-house References: [archiscene.net](http://www.archiscene.net/housing/purcells-cove-house-omar-gandhi-architect/) & [omargandhi](http://omargandhi.com) Omar Gandhi Architect's Purcells Cove House is located in the heart of the Halifax suburb in Nova Scotia, Canada. Close to open water and surrounded by a rural landscape, this residence consists of layered, rectangular volumes that also double as its three spacious levels. While this Purcells Cove House features a minimalist and modern exterior, its interior design is more rustic in its overall approach. The opposite of ornate, the home's interior combines walnut plywood accents with clean white walls. The walls are mostly left bare with the exception of art work that adorns walls throughout. The result is a cozy and functional family home that is simultaneously elegant and urban when compared to its surrounding homes -- residences that embody a more traditional countryside feel. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 85% | Activity: 56% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Layered Volumes:** Design trend incorporating stacked rectangular volumes in residential architecture. - **Rustic Minimalism:** Design trend featuring modern, minimalist exteriors with warm, natural accents in interiors. - **Elegant Urbanism:** Design trend combining functional family homes with sophisticated urban aesthetics. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Residential Architecture:** Opportunity for architects to incorporate layered, functional designs in modern homes. - **Interior Design:** Opportunity for designers to create warm, minimalist interiors using natural materials. - **Real Estate Development:** Opportunity for developers to build elegant, modern homes that blend with traditional surroundings. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Contemporary Stacked Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/everden-residence.md) - [Faceted Cedar Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-house-on-a-hill.md) - [Tranquil Cozy Canadian Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/white-rock-cottage.md) - [Nature-Merging Geometric Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neville-park-residence.md) - [Dramatic Roof-Topped Ontario Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ridge-house.md) - [Cedar Wood Triangular Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jib-house.md) - [Discrete Lakeside Modern Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palissade.md) - [Meadow-Overlooking Sleek Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studioac-1.md) - [Stepped Hillside Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/b2a-architects.md)
