# Transparent Inflated Parasols The Pump Umbrella Eliminates the Wet Fabric of Conventional Designs By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-01-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pump-umbrella References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2013/01/02/) & [youtube](http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=RfL2Uke1a-c) If you've got an umbrella handy when a torrential downpour begins, I figured you've got less to complain about than many of your fellow pedestrians. However, the Pump Umbrella does solve a legitimate problem that people face when they bring their rain covers indoors. This innovative design by Mingyeon Jang and Kiho Jung incorporates an [air pressurizing handle](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apo5c) and a fine [filmy balloon](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-milano-jacket). The contraption remains a [compact cane](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/standpoint) when it's not in use and you simply extend the length of it in the instance of showers. Apply three compressions to the tubing and the circular shield will expand out from the top. Once you've found refuge indoors, the Pump Umbrella can be easily deflated to remove the soaking wet material. It packs away tightly until you venture back outside. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 34% | Activity: 22% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Transparent Inflated Parasols:** Designing transparent inflated parasols can be a disruptive innovation opportunity in the umbrella industry. - **Air-pressurizing Handles:** Creating air-pressurizing handles can be a disruptive innovation opportunity for umbrella manufacturers. - **Compact Canes:** Incorporating fine filmy balloons into compact canes can be a disruptive innovation opportunity for designers in the accessories industry. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Umbrella Manufacturing:** The innovation of air pressurizing handles could create a new market opportunity for umbrella manufacturers. - **Accessory Design:** Designers in the accessories industry could explore the possibility of incorporating fine filmy balloons into their products. - **Outdoor Equipment:** The development of transparent inflated parasols could disrupt the traditional umbrella market and create a new market within the outdoor equipment industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Space-Inspired Folding Umbrellas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bloombrella.md) - [Disappearing Umbrella Stands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coilo.md) - [Connected Dual Functioning Umbrellas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hulasol.md) - [Branch-Like Umbrella Stands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aghsan.md) - [Wall-Mounted Umbrella Stands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/umbrella-1.md) - [Rainproof Wheelchair Shells](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mobidry.md) - [OLED Weather Umbrellas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ori-umbrella.md) - [Inflatable Accordion-Style Helmets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ventete-ah1.md) - [Transforming Umbrella Stands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/split-1.md)
