When people think of comic books, their first thought usually goes to the superhero genre like [Batman and Superman](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/batman-x-blvck-collection) but the real comic genre that has lived on from generation-to-generation is the pulp style and it's coming back with a bang. Leading the way with his crafty lines and bold designs is American artist Brett Parson and his pulp art illustration series. For his series, Parson created a series of illustrations depicting modern [comic book characters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marvel-and-disney) like The Walking Dead, Tank Girl and [Buffy the Vampire Slayer](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vampire-slayer-collection) with a pulp art style twist. What makes this technique of art look unique is its rugged and sallow look -- giving it an authentic vintage feel -- because of the rough pulp paper used at the time. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.8/10 - Popularity: 90% | Activity: 77% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Pulp Comics Revival:** The comeback of pulp comics is disrupting the traditional superhero genre and offering a fresh storytelling approach. - **Bold Pulp Art Illustrations:** The use of bold lines and designs in pulp art illustrations is creating eye-catching and visually striking comic book characters. - **Authentic Vintage Feel:** The incorporation of rough pulp paper in illustrations is providing an authentic vintage feel, appealing to nostalgia and creating a unique artistic style. ### Where This Applies - **Comic Book Publishing:** Publishers in the comic book industry can capitalize on the pulp comics revival by producing and promoting new series with a pulp art style twist. - **Art Supplies:** The demand for art supplies such as special pulp paper and bold line markers is increasing as artists and illustrators seek to recreate the vintage aesthetic in their work. - **Pop Culture Merchandise:** Companies selling pop culture merchandise can tap into the growing popularity of pulp comics by incorporating pulp art illustrations into their product designs and offerings. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Superhero-Inspired Comic Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marvel-collection.md) - [Comic Book Hero Collectibles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/comic-book-heros.md) - [Sailor Origin-Story Mangas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eye-lit-popeye.md) - [Americana Subculture-Themed Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bullet-proof.md) - [Pop Art-Appreciating IPAs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/double-ipas.md) - [Vampire Slayer Makeup Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vampyre-cosmetics.md) - [Collaboration Superhero Comics](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bazooka-bubble-gum-and-dc-comics.md) - [Bold Anime-Inspired Streetwear](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/geeks-rule-hellsing.md) - [Horrific Beer-Themed Comics](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/garage-beer.md)
