# Lever System Lighting The Pulley Floor Lamp by Monocomplex Evokes a Sense of Tension By Meghan Young | Published 2012-01-20 | Updated 2012-01-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pulley-floor-lamp References: [core77](http://www.core77.com/blog/lighting/the_aesthetics_of_mechanical_advantage_pulley_floor_lamp_by_monocomplex_21582.asp) & [monocomplex](http://www.monocomplex.com/) The Pulley Floor Lamp may be inspired by mechanics, but it also looks like it was inspired by a construction site. Envision a crane lifting a pipe and the reference will make absolute sense. Even the designers write, "This structure evokes a feeling of tension, as if the pulley is delivering a heavy thing to a high place." Full of character, this light fixture is unique even when compared to similar [pulley lighting](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/completing-absence-lamp). The cylindrical shape of the lampshade is very atypical, especially in the way it distributes the light. Created by Monocomplex, a design studio based in Seoul, Korea, the Pulley Floor Lamp is made out of [walnut, two-tone steel](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp) and a red Teflon line. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.6/10 - Popularity: 77% | Activity: 83% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Mechanical-inspired Lighting:** Opportunity for creating lighting fixtures inspired by mechanical elements, such as pulleys and cranes. - **Unique Light Fixtures:** Potential for designing light fixtures with unconventional shapes and distribution of light for a distinctive look. - **Industrial Design Aesthetics:** Demand for lamps with an industrial, construction-inspired aesthetic, incorporating materials like steel and wood. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Lighting Design:** Innovative designers can explore new concepts and materials to create unique lighting fixtures. - **Furniture Design:** Opportunity for integrating industrial design elements into furniture pieces, combining functionality with aesthetics. - **Home Decor:** Market for industrial-style home decor items, offering a range of design options inspired by construction and mechanics. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Suspended Halo Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lamplox-minimalist-floor-lamp.md) - [Street Light-Inspired Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/standing-lamp-marble.md) - [Cutesy Coiled Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-helix-lamp.md) - [Structural Two-Part Lighting Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luno-lamp.md) - [Contemporary Modular Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/point-floor-lamp.md) - [Sculptural Metal Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polyshape.md) - [Space-Efficient Versatile Lamp Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dedicate-lamp.md) - [Bold Playful Lighting Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/little-lebow-table-lamp.md) - [Sculptural Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp.md)
