This powerful art piece uses black-lit elements to mimic an [above-ground swimming pool](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/malvern-pool-house). The surreal sculpture is displayed at night, appearing to glow and resembling the iridescent water of a pool. Constructed from [2000 transparent containers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pure-exhibition) and 800 drinking glasses, this [black-lit sculptural piece](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chroma-installation) is filled with transparent blue liquid. Protesting against the privatization of public space, the Public Swimming Pool on a Background of a Field of Barley installation celebrates the pool that once occupied the Plaza de la Cebada site. After its 2008 demolition, the local pool was not rebuilt despite of the local governments promises for a replacement. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.2/10 - Popularity: 81% | Activity: 66% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Art Installation Lighting:** Exploring new ways to use black-lit elements in art installations, creating surreal and visually captivating experiences. - **Transparent Container Sculptures:** Utilizing transparent containers as a medium for sculptural expressions, creating unique and engaging art pieces. - **Protest Art:** Using art as a form of protest against the privatization of public spaces, highlighting social and political issues. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art:** The art industry can embrace new lighting techniques to enhance installations and engage audiences in unique ways. - **Design:** Designers can explore the use of transparent containers as a medium for creating sculptures and installations, pushing the boundaries of traditional art forms. - **Activism:** The activism industry can utilize art as a powerful tool for expressing social and political messages, contributing to public discourse and awareness. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Illuminated Bright Pool Surfaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vetrite.md) - [Whimsical Pool-Inspired Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/public-pool-exhibition.md) - [Ljubljana Steel Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/water-sculpture-lj.md) - [Intricate Lighting Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/objects-of-common-interest1.md) - [3D-Printed Ethereal Floating Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/prairie-cord.md) - [Recycled Bar Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bar-installation.md) - [Urban Portugal Swimming Pools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loop-pool.md) - [Embassy Wait-Representing Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/water-clock-installation.md) - [Gas Rig Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/striking-art-installation.md)
