Kubo Tsushima Architects are reconsidering what it looks like to construct a restroom in a public place. Located in a Nakanojo parking lot near a historic temple, the modern washroom is little more than an outhouse, but you would never guess so simply by looking at it. The [minimalist structure](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-kyobate) features [corrugated galvanized steel sheet](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/catskill-house) for walls, which are essentially maintenance-free. The flooring is made out of a permeable but surface-strengthening material with "mortar steel trowel finishing." In addition to revamping the look of [public bathrooms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/prefabricated-pods), this design is also extremely practical. The rounded shape is intended to prevent dust and dirt from accumulating in corners while also providing added privacy. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.4/10 - Popularity: 81% | Activity: 74% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Redesigned Public Bathrooms:** Architects are revolutionizing the look and functionality of public bathrooms with sleek and modern designs, such as using corrugated galvanized steel walls and permeable flooring. - **Minimalist Restrooms:** The use of minimalist structures and rounded shapes in public bathrooms is gaining popularity as it offers practicality, easy maintenance, and added privacy. - **Sustainable Materials in Restroom Construction:** Architects are incorporating sustainable materials like corrugated galvanized steel and permeable flooring in restroom construction, promoting eco-friendly design and reducing maintenance needs. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture and Design:** The architectural industry can take inspiration from the use of sleek and modern designs in public bathrooms to create similarly innovative structures in various settings. - **Construction:** The construction industry can explore the use of sustainable materials like corrugated galvanized steel and permeable flooring in restroom construction, offering more durable and eco-friendly options to clients. - **Hospitality and Tourism:** The hospitality and tourism industry can benefit from incorporating minimalist restrooms with rounded shapes in their establishments, providing a modern and aesthetically pleasing experience for guests. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Enclosed Japanese Park Toilets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toiletowa.md) - [Light-Filled Public Restrooms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vivid-toilet-interior.md) - [Illuminated Public Artful Toilets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hiroo-east-park.md) - [Contemporary Public Bathhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/round-about-baths.md) - [Sci-Fi-Themed Metallic Potty Pods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-portal.md) - [Amorphous Public Restrooms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amoeba-public-restroom.md) - [Anti-Splashing Bathroom Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-urinal-design.md) - [Brutalist Smart Toilets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/formation-02.md) - [Modular Bathroom Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/prefabricated-pods.md)
