Created by British artist Marc Quinn, the public art sculpture depicts an image of the artist’s seven month-old son sleeping. The mammoth sculpture, which weighs seven tons and is over 10 meters long, was created using [painted bronze and steel](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/water-sculpture-lj) to give the impression of weightlessness. The piece entitled ‘Planet’ looks [surreal and imposing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1) against the night lights of Singapore’s skyline. Artist Marc Quinn describes his work: “To me, Planet is a paradox - hugely heavy, yet the bronze appears weightless; overwhelmingly big, yet also an image of vulnerability. It is both a reflection of ourselves and the earth upon which we live.” Photo Credits: [designboom](http://www.designboom.com/art/marc-quinns-large-scale-infant-sculpture-unveiled-in-singapore/class=FourteenG) | [marcquinn](http://www.marcquinn.com/class=FourteenG) ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.1/10 - Popularity: 36% | Activity: 48% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Gigantic Public Art:** The trend of creating huge and imposing public art sculptures with surreal features of our daily life presents an excellent disruptive innovation opportunity for architectural companies. - **Weightless Sculptures:** The trend of creating weightless sculptures from heavy metals presents an excellent disruptive innovation opportunity for manufacturing companies. - **Paradoxical Artworks:** The trend of creating paradoxical and meaningful artworks presents an excellent disruptive innovation opportunity for digital and graphic designing companies. ### Where This Applies - **Architectural Industry:** Architectural companies can take advantage of this trend and engage with their surroundings to create huge public art sculptures that represent a deeper meaning of daily life to the people. - **Manufacturing Industry:** Manufacturing companies can develop innovative manufacturing approaches that provide weightless sculptures from heavy metals that can be used for public art sculptures. - **Graphic Designing Industry:** Graphic designing companies can take advantage of this trend and create artwork concepts with paradoxical meanings that not only look unique and attractive but also deliver a deeper message to the viewers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Future-Facing Sculptural Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eye-of-the-future.md) - [Gas Rig Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/striking-art-installation.md) - [Futuristic Museum Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unnatural-history-museum-of-singapore.md) - [Interactive Kinetic Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-kinetic-sculptures.md) - [Virant Monumental Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meow-wolfs-group-exhibition.md) - [Monumental Air Installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iwagumi-air-scape.md) - [Reflective Urban Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minibean.md) - [Sculptural Mall Dreamscape](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unbounded-sanctuary.md) - [Peace-Centric Oversized Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peace-head.md)
