# Nature-Inspired Desk Lights Vaslyaev Maxim's Pteleobius Lamp is Inspired by a Bark Beetle Family By Meghan Young | Published 2011-04-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pteleobius-lamp References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/pteleobius-lamp-by-vaslyaev-maxim/) & [vantaka](http://www.vantaka.com/) I love the dual nature of the Pteleobius Lamp. As though pitting nature against man, it shows the two reigning powers of this planet in steel and wood. Interestingly enough, the main focus of and inspiration behind the Pteleobius Lamp isn't the contrast between steel and wood, but a family of [bark beetles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phantom-lighting). Created by Russian designer Vaslyaev Maxim, the Pteleobius Lamp was actually named after the specific beetle family. The wooden piece featured on the lamp boasts [intricate engravings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foreshadow-table-lamp) that mimic the patterns in which the Pteleobius beetles lay their larvae. The chrome piece above simply highlights these stunning engravings. Overall, the Pteleobius Lamp revels in its natural influences. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 61% | Activity: 52% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Nature-inspired Designs:** Businesses can innovate by creating products with intricate natural designs and patterns, similar to Vaslyaev Maxim's Pteleobius Lamp. - **Sustainable Lighting:** Businesses can create eco-friendly lighting solutions that incorporate both wood and metal, taking inspiration from the Pteleobius Lamp. - **Biomimicry Decor:** The trend towards biomimicry in product design can be extended to home decor items, like the Pteleobius Lamp, which features intricate beetle-inspired engravings. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Lighting:** The lighting industry can incorporate both natural wooden elements and intricate designs inspired by nature, akin to the Pteleobius Lamp. - **Furniture:** Furniture manufacturers can take inspiration from the Pteleobius Lamp's use of natural elements and intricate designs to create new pieces in a similar aesthetic. - **Home Decor:** The trend towards natural and eco-friendly home decor products can be extended to include nature-inspired items like the Pteleobius Lamp, which features striking beetle-inspired engravings. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Plant-Inspired Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palmetto-lamp.md) - [Wooden Sustainable Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woodo.md) - [Plant Pod-Inspired Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nature-inspired-pendant-light.md) - [Scenic Architecture Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/architecture-inspired-table-lamp.md) - [Nature-Inspired Minimal Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/capture-the-light.md) - [Plant-Based Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plantbased-lamp.md) - [Serene Wooden Dynamic Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sleepy-wood.md) - [Pine Wood-Inspired Minimal Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jakobsson.md) - [Twisting Timber Lampshade Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twisted-lasercut-wooden-lampshade.md)
