Rotterdam research in Amsterdam is turning the city's waste into dynamic street furniture, in a project titled XXX bench.
After research suggested that the average Amsterdam citizen produces 50 pounds of waste per year, The New Raw, a design studio in Rotterdam set out to do something about it. Using a specialized 3D printer, the design team was able to effectively print gorgeous and dynamically shaped benches, with materials sourced from waste. The design can be customized however, the firm carefully selected to create a design that's reminiscent of waves, representing "equilibrium on both ends of the bench."
The benches hope to be installed throughout the city in the near future, offering a place for people to relax, that plays an active role in addressing Amsterdam's waste crisis.
