# Minimalist Black Box Abodes The Klm House by Project Dwg is a True Definition of Minimalism By Jana Pijak | Published 2014-05-21 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/project-dwg References: [frameweb](http://www.frameweb.com/news/klm-house-by-project-dwg) & [projectdwg](http://www.projectdwg.com/) The KLM House by [Project DWG](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bb01) embodies minimalist design ideals. After being almost completely demolished by a fireworks warehouse explosion in 2000, the inner-city neighbourhood of Roombeek in Enschede is on the verge of being rebuilt. The neighbourhood has since become an architectural playground for designers who have been given the opportunity to build a range of imaginative projects on the site. Complementing its surrounding neighbourhood or modern homes, this [black box design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stealth-house) is the latest residential home by Project DWG. The studio's KLM house is located on a [corner lot](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modus-architect) and features a black prism that is supported by a frame of concrete posts. This allows the home to feature large windows without compromising the privacy of its inhabitants. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 50% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Minimalist Architecture:** There is an opportunity for designers and architects to create more residential homes using minimalist architecture principles. - **Black Box Design:** The use of black box design in residential homes can be used to create an eye-catching and modern aesthetic that is also functional. - **Privacy-focused Design:** Privacy-focused design can be used to create a sense of security and seclusion within residential homes. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** Architects can utilize minimalist design principles to create innovative and modern residential homes. - **Real Estate:** Black box design can be used by real estate developers to create a unique selling point for residential properties. - **Construction:** Privacy-focused design can be incorporated into construction plans to create a safer and more secure living environment. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Minimal Japanese Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-kyobate.md) - [Privacy Enhanced Minimal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-open-house-1.md) - [Monochromatic Minimal Cozy Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vaulted-monochrome-haus.md) - [Black-Metal Angled Holiday Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shadow-box-house.md) - [Refined Modern Dwellings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/silver-house.md) - [Lofty Minimalist Living Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-living-space1.md) - [Black-Concrete Mountain Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/black-house-1.md) - [Paired-Back Modernist Interiors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modernist-interior.md) - [Concrete Block-Formed Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blockwall-house.md)
