# Light-Refracting Furniture The Prism Table by Maurie Novak Creates a Geometric Rainbow By Meghan Young | Published 2014-01-31 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/prism-table References: [trendir](http://www.trendir.com/archives/007563.html) & [prismtable](http://www.prismtable.com/) The [Prism Table](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/prisma-collection) looks different from every angle. The Prism Table refracts light through the use of [crystal glass](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-collection), creating geometric rainbows that could easily be mistaken for a colorfully intricate display of strings. It is hard to say what would be more impressive. While the latter is considerably more artisanal, the use of light allows the possibilities to be nearly endless. Designed by Maurie Novak for MN Design, an emerging architectural and design practice located in Melbourne, Australia , the Prism Table boasts a [stainless steel frame](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/through-chrome-reflections). The materials on their own lend a more minimalist and modern design yet it is undeniable that on the whole, the Prism Table is delightfully whimsical and artistic. It is astounding how something so simple can look so complex. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.1/10 - Popularity: 88% | Activity: 87% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Mixed-material Furniture:** Opportunity to create innovative furniture designs by combining different materials, such as crystal glass and stainless steel. - **Interactive Furniture:** Potential for furniture that interacts with light to create dynamic and engaging visual experiences. - **Artistic Minimalism:** Opportunity to create visually striking furniture designs that blend minimalist aesthetics with artistic elements. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Innovative materials and designs can revolutionize the furniture manufacturing industry. - **Interior Design:** Opportunity to incorporate light-refracting furniture into interior design projects to create unique and captivating spaces. - **Architectural Design:** Architects can explore the use of light-refracting furniture as a design element to enhance the overall aesthetic of buildings and spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Acrylic Multicolor Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lucid-side-tables.md) - [Lucite Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/draga-aurel.md) - [Mesmerizing Bright Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/draga-aurel1.md) - [Optical-Illusion Home Decor Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sevval-kalaycikli.md) - [Frosted Light Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zen-collection-1.md) - [Cloudy Sunbeam Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sunbeam-side-table.md) - [Crystalline Acrylic Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/draga-aurel-flare-collection.md) - [Glass Geometry Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-collection.md) - [Shimmering Oceanic Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/liquid-table.md)
