# Condensation-Covered Reflectors The Pretty in Prison Mirror is Polished to a Dull Sheen By Gil Cohen | Published 2013-02-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pretty-in-prison References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2013/02/11/pretty-in-prison-mirror-practice-of-everyday-design-shiny-pretty-things/) & [everydaydesign](http://everydaydesign.ca/product-design/pretty-in-prison/) Created by Canadian studio The Practice of Everyday Design, the Pretty in Prison mirror appears to have undergone the test of time. A foggy exterior frames a highly polished center, appearing to be some old fixture that someone has repeatedly rubbed over time in order to create a reflective mirrored surface. The design looks like a mirror covered in condensation with a single patch that someone has wiped in order to see their reflection. The dulled effect of the glass gives the bathroom an antiquated appearance, adding a sense of age and sophistication to the room. Those who don't like overly flashy fixtures and [big shiny mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zigzag-collection) will enjoy the dulled sheen of the subtly substantial Pretty in Prison mirror and sink. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.5/10 - Popularity: 23% | Activity: 13% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Antiquated Aesthetics:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop products that combine vintage designs with modern functionality to appeal to those who appreciate a sense of age and sophistication. - **Subdued Reflections:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create mirrors with intentionally dulled surfaces to provide a unique and subtle reflection, catering to individuals who prefer a more understated and muted aesthetic. - **Weathered Charm:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design fixtures that mimic the appearance of aged or weathered materials, giving spaces a sense of character and charm. ### Where This Applies - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore design concepts that incorporate unconventional textures and finishes to create distinctive home decor pieces. - **Bathroom Fixtures:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop bathroom fixtures that combine traditional elements with unique design features, appealing to customers who seek a blend of functionality and visual interest. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Offer interior design services that embrace the use of antique-inspired elements to bring a touch of nostalgia and sophistication to modern spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dynamic Structural Mirror Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bton-brut.md) - [Retro Jelly Mold-Inspired Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jelly-mirror.md) - [Artful Hanging Contemporary Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ready-to-hang.md) - [Optical Illusion Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hooptical.md) - [One-of-a-Kind Ceramic Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ceramic-mirror.md) - [Reflective Water-Themed Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lakes-collection.md) - [Reflective Material Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mirroring-dialogue.md) - [Suspended Mirrored Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mirror-collection-1.md) - [Sophisticated Copper Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/manu-ba.md)
