# Smart Power Sockets The iSocket 3G Texts Users When There's a Power Outage By Riley von Niessen | Published 2016-05-17 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/power-socket References: [theverge](http://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2016/5/15/11679594/isocket-3g-texting-power-outlet) & [isocket3g](https://www.isocket3g.com/en/) The 'iSocket 3G' is a smart power socket that sends users a text or call when there is a power failure at home. The device keeps track of temperature as well by monitoring the thermostat and sending alerts if a substantial change occurs. The device is compatible with as many as 10 phones at a time and will alert multiple people at once if there is a problem. As the alert is sent through a text and not an app notification, it works with any mobile phone -- both non-smartphones and smartphones. This smart power socket is the most useful for people who have aquatic pets that need the tank temperature monitored or those needing to keep a close eye on their fridge temperature to make sure vital vaccines are kept safe. The iSocket 3G has a [battery backup](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solix-e10), SIM card and cellular radio that keep it powered to send users important alerts. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 4% | Activity: 22% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Smart Power Sockets:** The iSocket 3G provides a disruptive innovation opportunity by enabling users to receive alerts about power outages and temperature changes through text messages. - **Home Monitoring:** The iSocket 3G opens up possibilities for disruptive innovation by monitoring temperature and sending alerts, making it ideal for home security and safety. - **Internet of Things (iot):** The iSocket 3G exemplifies disruptive innovation in the IoT industry as it connects power sockets to the internet and enables remote monitoring and control. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Automation:** The iSocket 3G presents a disruptive innovation opportunity in the home automation industry by providing real-time power outage and temperature monitoring. - **Pet Care:** The iSocket 3G offers a disruptive innovation opportunity in the pet care industry by enabling users to remotely monitor and control tank temperature for aquatic pets. - **Pharmaceuticals:** The iSocket 3G creates a disruptive innovation opportunity in the pharmaceutical industry by ensuring the safe storage of vaccines through temperature monitoring and alerts. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Energy-Saving Smart Outlets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wall-outlet-h2.md) - [Smart Home Power Stations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gendome-home-3000.md) - [Modular Self-Monitoring Power Cubes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/teak-smart-cube.md) - [Emergency Smart Home Batteries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-home-battery.md) - [Real-Time Power-Tracking Outlets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelly-plug-gen4.md) - [Router-Monitoring Outlet Adapters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mocreo-nm1.md) - [Energy-Monitoring Smart Outlets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eve-energy-outlet.md) - [Senior-Monitoring Smart Plugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/threshold-care.md) - [Surge Protector Outlet Extendors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-plug-outlet-extender.md)
