# Electricity-Carrying Sculptures These Giant Human Figures are Actually Icelandic Power Pylons By Charlotte Joyce Kidd | Published 2015-10-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/power-pylons References: [boingboing.net](http://boingboing.net/2015/10/05/power-pylons-that-look-like-lo.html) & [choishine](http://www.choishine.com/Projects/giants.html) Proving that art can exist anywhere, architecture firm Choi+Shine created this proposal to turn Iceland's electricity-carrying power pylons into beautiful [sculptural giants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eye-of-the-future). Power pylons are dotted throughout Iceland's majestic natural scenery, supporting the electric lines that carry power to its populated areas. Choi+Shine propose replacing the power pylons with wireframe sculptures shaped like towering human beings. The fascinating sculptures would be posed in formations suiting their environment -- for example, power pylons on uphill slopes could be turned into climbing giants. The images accompanying the power pylons proposal show just how stunning and attention-grabbing the [utilitarian art installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iwagumi-air-scape) would be. This project would turn a necessary public object -- power pylons -- into a work of art that would attract tourism and international artistic praise for the country of Iceland. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.3/10 - Popularity: 79% | Activity: 71% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Wireframe Sculptures:** Creating wireframe sculptures to transform utilitarian objects into art installations. - **Utilitarian Art:** Using art installations to enhance the functionality of everyday objects. - **Tourism Art:** Using art installations to attract tourism and promote a country's cultural appeal. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** Architecture firms can explore incorporating sculptures and art installations into their designs to enhance the aesthetic appeal of structures. - **Tourism:** The tourism industry can leverage art installations to create unique attractions that appeal to culturally inclined travelers. - **Energy:** The energy industry can explore innovative designs that blend functionality and aesthetics, transforming power pylons into artistic landmarks. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Solar Energy Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/michael-jantzen-2.md) - [Reanimated Power Plant Parks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/manresa-island.md) - [Energy-Generating Park Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/energy-park.md) - [Natural Rock-Imitating Extension Cords](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/power-gem.md) - [Colorful Aerial Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clean-power-campaign.md) - [Grid-Connected Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solar-electric-pavilion.md) - [Lightning-Inspired Artful Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bright-light-shining.md) - [Intricate Lighting Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/objects-of-common-interest1.md) - [Concept-Driven Public Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ivan-toth-depea.md)
