# Spud Storage Systems The Potato Family Collection was Inspired by Kiddie Food Sculptures By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-01-22 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/potato-family References: [designspotter](http://www.designspotter.com/product/2013/01/Potato-Family.html) & [floriswubben.nl](http://www.floriswubben.nl/potato-family/) Even if you never made little figurines from potatoes as a child, you can probably still appreciate the playfulness of the Potato Family of furnishings. Designer Floris Wubben worked in collaboration with artist Bauke Fokkema to bring the [simple and nostalgic creations of children](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-eternal-child) to a grander scale for practical use. A solid cut of Dutch fir wood was used to form each yam and loosely cubic sections were carved from this. These [irregular voids make ideal cubbies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chunks-and-blocks) for stashing a variety of objects, tidying up [kids' rooms and kitchens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twiny-sofa-system). Polished stainless steel rods were given pointed ends to act like magnified toothpicks. These were seemingly unsystematically stuck through the thick lumber to form the legs and connections between the Potato Family, in the charming manner of a young child. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 36% | Activity: 16% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Playful Furnishings:** Opportunity for creating furniture designs that bring a sense of nostalgia and playfulness to everyday objects. - **Nostalgic Creations:** Designs that reimagine childhood creations on a larger scale for practical use. - **Interactive Storage Solutions:** Innovative storage designs that incorporate interactive elements for organizing various objects. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** Opportunities for furniture designers to create unique and whimsical pieces that evoke nostalgia. - **Interior Design:** Incorporating playful and nostalgic elements into interior spaces to create a sense of joy and whimsy. - **Children's Products:** Designing storage solutions that are both functional and engaging for children's rooms. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Playful Toy-Like Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frunchroom-furniture-collection.md) - [Playful Storage Blocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/berto-hidden-secrets.md) - [Stackable Potato Appetizers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hash-brown-topple-tower.md) - [Toy Block-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bloc-collection.md) - [Fruit-Inspired Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fruitinspired-furniture-collection.md) - [Play-Friendly Furniture Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/my-nook-modular-furniture-system.md) - [Transforming Imaginative Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kiddie-couch.md) - [Modular Cork Playful Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kidou.md) - [Whimsical Childlike Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-eternal-child.md)
