# Abandoned Post Office Photography 'Post Script' Depicts the Vanishing World of Postal Service By Rahul Kalvapalle | Published 2015-10-02 | Updated 2015-10-07 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/post-script References: [featureshoot](http://www.featureshoot.com/2015/09/the-vanishing-of-the-united-states-postal-service-in-the-south/) & [rachelboillot](http://rachelboillot.com/index.php?/post-script/post-script/2/) Post Script is a photo performance, put together by noted photographer Rachel Boillot, that depicts the slow and gradual disappearance of the United States Postal Service. This particular photo series was captured largely in the American South, and actually sheds light on the slow fading away of two different systems -- that of the American postal service and that of the analog film process. “I was initially intrigued by the dilemma of the Postal Service because of the parallel to my own field,” Boillot says, alluding to the disappearance of the postal service as well as analog film. "Like the letter, the analog photograph seems threatened at present. Digitization has rendered aspects of my own practice obsolete—even entirely extinct.” Postal service and photography may seem like different worlds but they're both undergoing massive change. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.4/10 - Popularity: 56% | Activity: 67% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Analog Preservation:** The slow fading away of analog film preservation is a trend that provides opportunities for disruptive innovation in archiving and digitization. - **Postal Automation:** The decline of the United States Postal Service has created a trend towards automation and disruption in the logistics and shipping industry. - **Creative Documentary Photography:** The creation of documentary photography projects like Post Script has shown a growing trend towards using visual media to shed light on societal changes and preserve history. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Photography:** The decline of analog film and the disappearance of the United States Postal Service offers new opportunities for innovation in the photography industry. - **Shipping and Logistics:** The automation and disruption of the postal service presents opportunities for innovation in the shipping and logistics industry. - **Archiving and Preservation:** The trend towards analog preservation and digitization offers opportunities for innovation in the archiving and preservation industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Post Office-Transformed Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brest-post-office.md) - [Hybrid Mail Services](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/better-letter-card-co.md) - [Nostalgic Art-Inspired Postal Stamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/usps-stamp.md) - [Skateboard-Inspired Stamp Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/skateboard-inspired-stamp-collection.md) - [Mailbox-Shaped Scanner Printers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tou.md) - [Heritage Postal Fashion Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ralph-lauren-and-usps.md) - [Pop-Up Postal Service Events](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zukkyunpost-office.md) - [Public Art Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paul-anthony-smith.md) - [Solar Parcel Postboxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/royal-mail-solar-postboxes.md)
