The redesign of the 'Porto Fira Suites' by Interior Design Laboratorium takes inspiration from the site's historic use.

The original building of the [13-suite hotel](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mesonia-boutique) was operated by the neighborhood church -- 'Saint John the Theologian.' Drawing from the monastic roots of the space, Interior Design Laboratorium aimed "to harmoniously combine the [simplicity of the space](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/four-seasons-hotel-osaka) with the heaviness of the materials, such as the aged wood and metal."

Keeping with the architectural tone of the region, the hotel still maintains the clean white-washed walls and heavy stone archways that are recalled with images of the [Greek Isles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gundari-resort). The color palette remains neutral with blue, grey and black accents that give the space dimension and weight without taking away from its breezy tone.
