# Garden Swing-Inspired Seating The PortiqueArmchair by Florent Coirier is Simple and Nostalgic By Meghan Young | Published 2012-03-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portiquearmchair-by-florent-coirier References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/portiquearmchair-by-florent-coirier/) & [florentcoirier](http://www.florentcoirier.com/) Despite its simple aesthetic, PortiqueArmchair by Florent Coirier has a whimsical appeal. It is inspired by [garden swings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/espattio-platero-rocking-table). The seat portion of the chair is attached to a metal frame by rope, allowing it to move back and forth as well as side to side, depending on what the sitter desires. The Paris-based designer was also inspired by the walk-loading of goods from the port of Nantes/SaintNazaire, where he was born. Full of [nostalgic childhood feelings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aroma-chair), PortiqueArmchair by Florent Coirier has a ton of character. Made out of unassuming [aluminum tubing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loopy-chair), oak wood and polyester nautical rope, the overall design of the chair would fit into just about any living space. The materials used happen to be very common to shipbuilding, which pays tribute to Coirier's latter inspiration. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.1/10 - Popularity: 77% | Activity: 37% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Swing-inspired Furniture:** Designing furniture inspired by childhood memories and nostalgic feelings can disrupt the furniture industry and appeal to customers looking for unique pieces. - **Interactive Seating:** Creating seating that allows the user to control the movement and position disrupts the traditional concept of furniture and offers new innovation opportunities. - **Nautical-inspired Design:** Incorporating materials common in shipbuilding into furniture can disrupt traditional furniture design and appeal to customers looking for unique and meaningful pieces. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture:** The furniture industry could incorporate nostalgic and interactive design elements into their products, appealing to consumers looking for unique pieces for their living spaces. - **Home Decor:** Nautical-inspired furniture could disrupt the traditional home decor industry and appeal to customers looking for unique and meaningful pieces for their living spaces. - **Interior Design:** Swing-inspired furniture and nautical-inspired design elements can disrupt traditional interior design practices, offering new and unique opportunities for designers to create memorable living spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Minimalist Outdoor Swings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/outdoor-swing.md) - [Childhood-Inspired Outdoor Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peace-outdoor-lounge.md) - [Soothing Boat-Like Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canoa-chair.md) - [Curvaceous Outdoor Swings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/niu-swing.md) - [Traditional Vibrant Outdoor Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/net-lounge.md) - [Fishing-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/akos-huber.md) - [Contemporary Leather Classic Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sling-chair-1.md) - [Rope-Like Dynamic Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caterpillar-lounge.md) - [Modernized Outdoor Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pedrali-nar-chair-6360.md)
