# Hypnotic Portal Paintings These Framed Images by Street Artist 1010 are Colorful Optical Illusions By Ady Floyd | Published 2015-09-07 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portal-paintings References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/1010-painting-portals?utm_source=feedly&utm_medium=webfeeds) & [store.hashimotocontemporary](http://store.hashimotocontemporary.com/collections/vendors?q=1010) Anonymous street artist 1010 created these small portal paintings, which resemble psychedelic passages leading to alternate universes. Each image is unique thanks to the artist's use of various [handcut paper shapes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ripples-collection) and an assortment of acrylic paint strokes. The shapes resemble a vertical puddle after a rainstorm -- a puddle that transforms into a vortex that welcomes each guest into an unknown universe. Guests are welcome to stare into each [optical illusion](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-flow) which is both colorful and mesmerizing. Each of these portal paintings uses a different shape and various colors to keep the work interesting. Street artist 1010 created this collection of small prints to be hung in homes, a vastly different canvas than that of the artist's traditional cityscape murals. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.7/10 - Popularity: 80% | Activity: 22% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Psychedelic Art:** Exploring the use of psychedelic colors and optical illusions in artwork has the potential to disrupt traditional art forms and captivate audiences. - **Handcut Paper Art:** The technique of using handcut paper shapes in artwork presents an opportunity for innovative, intricate designs with a tactile appeal. - **Vortex Illusions:** Creating mesmerizing vortex illusions in artwork can offer immersive experiences that transport viewers to otherworldly dimensions. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art and Design:** The art and design industry can embrace the trend of psychedelic art and explore new avenues for showcasing creativity in various mediums. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can tap into the demand for unique, mesmerizing artwork like the small portal paintings, offering consumers a way to add intrigue and personality to their living spaces. - **Event Experiences:** Event planners and experiential marketers can incorporate vortex illusions and the use of handcut paper art to create captivating and immersive experiences that leave a lasting impression on attendees. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Wonderous Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/your-psychoacoustic-light-ensemble.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Optical Illusion Replica Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/liberty-science-center.md) - [Kinetic Optical Illusion Puzzles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-woodflow.md) - [Boundless Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frameless-experience.md) - [Oil Painting-Inspired Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/antonio-santn.md) - [Optical Illusion Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hooptical.md) - [Blurry Abstract Photography Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-allusion.md) - [Artful Custom Mirror Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portraits-collection.md)
