# Leaning Dual-Purpose Lights The 'Portal' Lamp is Part Sconce and Part Floor Light By Michael Hemsworth | Published 2018-11-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portal-lamp References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/portal-lamp/) & [lakeandwells](http://www.lakeandwells.com/) The 'Portal' lamp has been designed by Mark Kinsley and Tamera Leigh Staten of Lake + Wells in collaboration with Karice as a dual-purpose illuminator for a space that is [minimalist yet functional](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/delite-20). The illuminator is designed as one part [floor lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ori-lamp) and one part sconce to offer lighting that is a hybrid of both variations to create something completely unique. The lamp has been machined from a solid block of aluminum that has been refined by artisans before being anodized and assembled with a brass mirror that has been hand polished. The 'Portal' lamp was described in elegant detail when they said, "the elongated form and [reflective, polished brass core](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polyshape) nod to the mirror as a literary object of magic, a portal to other worlds."
