# Sci-Fi Workplace Sentries The Portal 2 Desk Defender Stands Guard Against Incomers By Gil Cohen | Published 2012-11-22 | Life-Stages Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portal-2-desk-defender References: [coolest-gadgets](http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/20121121/portal-2-sentry-turret-usb-desk-defender/) & [thinkgeek](http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/ee85/) When you step away from your desk, make sure that you are protecting any important information on your computer or documents on your desk by leaving the Portal 2 Desk Defender on guard. This miniature Portal 2 Sentry Turret can be plugged into a USB port and activated when you leave your cubicle or office. It has a red light that senses when people pass by, and if someone gets too close, it will send out a warning such as "preparing to dispense product" before opening up its side panels and firing deadly lasers at them. So maybe it won't actually shoot at people, but the Portal 2 Desk Defender does make convincing weapon noises. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 28% | Activity: 42% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Life-Stages](https://www.trendhunter.com/life-stages) > [Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/toys) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Usb-powered Desk Defenders:** USB-powered miniature sentry turrets that provide security and entertainment at workstations. - **Interactive Workplace Gadgets:** Innovative gadgets designed to engage and protect employees in the office environment. - **Functional Office Decor:** Decorative items with practical functions that enhance productivity and security in the workplace. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Tech Accessories:** Companies that create and distribute USB-powered gadgets and accessories for workstations. - **Office Supply:** Suppliers of interactive gadgets and devices designed to enhance office security and employee engagement. - **Interior Design:** Businesses specializing in functional and stylish office decor that promotes productivity and security. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [WFH Mouse-Activating Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mouse-mover.md) - [Spaceship-Inspired USB Hubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/docking-station-usb-hub.md) - [Steampunk Desktop Appliances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3in1-desk.md) - [Galactic-Themed Pen Holders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ufo-desk-pen.md) - [Animated Show-Inspired Butane Torches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/butane-torch.md) - [Aerospace-Inspired Desk Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/novium-edge-and-shuttleport.md) - [Desktop GIF Displayers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cyber-cube.md) - [Soothing Tetrapod Desk Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seawall-desk-accessories.md) - [Posture-Analyzing Desk Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/desk-assistant.md)
