# Spiked Tables The Porcupine Table Contains Some Super-Sharp Legs By Allison Love | Published 2010-07-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/porcupine-table References: [bookofjoe](http://www.bookofjoe.com/2010/07/porcupine-coffee-table.html) & [naturalismfurniture](http://www.naturalismfurniture.com/index.html) The Porcupine Table is quite a spiky piece of furniture. The aptly-named table features dozens of quills on the base which act as the Porcupine Table's legs. The surface of the table is quite smooth, which adds an interesting juxtaposition of smoothness to its intensely sharp bottom. The Porcupine Table really does resemble the shape of a porcupine on its back, and would be quite an intricate piece of furniture to add to any living room set. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.5/10 - Popularity: 27% | Activity: 11% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sharp Furniture:** The use of spiky elements in furniture design creates a new trend for boundary-pushing, edgy home decor. - **Juxtaposed Textures:** The combination of smooth and sharp textures in furniture design presents new opportunities for creative expression and innovation. - **Animal-inspired Design:** Taking inspiration from animals for furniture design creates unique pieces that stand out and add an element of whimsy to any space. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can utilize the trend of sharp furniture and juxtaposed textures to create distinctive and memorable spaces for their clients. - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can incorporate animal-inspired design into their product lines to appeal to consumers looking for unique, statement-making pieces. - **Art and Sculpture:** The trend of spiky furniture blurs the lines between furniture and art, offering opportunities for artists and sculptors to create functional, yet visually striking pieces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Ceiba Tree-Inspired Spiked Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ceiba-series.md) - [Curvaceous Abstract Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pet-table.md) - [Unconventional Awkwardly Seated Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uncomfortable-table.md) - [Creature-Like Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/octopus-center-table.md) - [Knick-Knack Storage Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spiky-desk-concept.md) - [Pointed Foundation Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/donatas-ukauskas.md) - [Crawling Dynamic Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carpentopod.md) - [Shimmering Oceanic Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/liquid-table.md) - [Playful Accent Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bug-table.md)
