# Collapsible Carrying Containers The MIO Pop-Up Basket Turns from a Tray into a Full-Sized Hamper By Gil Cohen | Published 2013-04-23 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/popup-basket References: [cubeme](http://cubeme.com/blog/2013/04/22/mio-pop-up-basket-by-jaime-salm-brian-kelly/) & [2modern](http://www.2modern.com/MIO-Pop-Up-Basket) Designed by Jaime Salm and Brian Kelly, the [MIO](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mio-smart-mirror) pop-up basket is a useful tool to have around the home in case you suddenly find yourself in the need of a [big basket](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/basket-sculpture). When [completely collapsed](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-cup), the design becomes a decorative tray that can be used to serve snacks or used to display small items on a counter top. For a deeper dish to hold larger items such as fruit or miscellaneous baubles, the outer edges of the tray can be lifted to create the beginnings of a basket. If desired, the sides of the pop-up basket can be raised further for a full-fledged hamper that can be used to display taller items such as long-stemmed flowers or to carry items for picnics and such. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 63% | Activity: 11% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Collapsible Containers:** The MIO pop-up basket showcases the trend of collapsible containers, providing a versatile and space-saving solution for storage and transportation. - **Multipurpose Designs:** The MIO pop-up basket embodies the trend of multipurpose designs, offering consumers a product that can transform from a decorative tray to a full-sized hamper. - **Functional Home Accessories:** The MIO pop-up basket represents the trend of functional home accessories, combining aesthetic appeal with practicality to meet the evolving needs of modern homeowners. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Furnishings:** The home furnishings industry can explore the use of collapsible containers like the MIO pop-up basket to offer customers innovative storage solutions for their living spaces. - **Hospitality and Events:** The hospitality and events industry can benefit from multipurpose designs like the MIO pop-up basket to provide guests with versatile and convenient storage options during their stay or event. - **Retail and E-commerce:** The retail and e-commerce industries can capitalize on the trend of functional home accessories by offering customers unique and practical products like the MIO pop-up basket for their homes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Compact Portable Dish Racks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dish-rack-2.md) - [Collapsible Storage Trolleys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clax-trolley.md) - [Collapsible Microwave Appliances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldable-microwave.md) - [Flatpack Campsite Storage Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldable-utility-box.md) - [Flatpack Portable Washing Machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/collapsible-washing-machine.md) - [Sleek Multifuntional Lifestyle Bags](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bask-bag.md) - [Capacious Collapsible Carts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/collapsible-cart.md) - [Disappearing Umbrella Stands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coilo.md) - [Compact Outdoor Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-1.md)
