The Multimod Hyperbody MSc2 project created the Swiss army knife-like apartment design to offer 1000 square feet of space where only limited space is available. Grooves in the flooring allow [flexible walls to slide around](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blooming-shed). They are powered by a motor hidden under the floorboards but can also be moved manually. As the polypropylene walls shift they also change shape and [built-in furniture emerges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expand-furniture). Items like chairs and tables are hidden in folds of the walls and will stay razor thin unless you want to use them. Students at the Dutch TU Delft designed the pop-up apartment so people could live in a continuously changing space while also addressing issues of urbanization and increasing populations. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.4/10 - Popularity: 66% | Activity: 27% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Transforming Living Spaces:** The trend of creating flexible living spaces with movable walls and built-in furniture offers opportunities for furniture manufacturers to create innovative products that maximize space utilization. - **Motorized Wall Systems:** The trend of using motorized wall systems in small apartments presents opportunities for construction and interior design companies to develop innovative solutions that transform limited space into versatile living environments. - **Space-optimizing Furniture:** The trend of incorporating space-optimizing furniture, such as chairs and tables hidden within wall folds, provides opportunities for furniture designers to create compact and multifunctional products that cater to the need for efficient space utilization. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Manufacturing:** The furniture manufacturing industry can capitalize on the trend of transforming living spaces by developing innovative products that maximize space utilization and cater to the needs of small apartment dwellers. - **Construction:** The construction industry can seize the opportunity presented by motorized wall systems to create customizable and adaptable small living spaces that address urbanization and population growth challenges. - **Interior Design:** Interior design companies can leverage the trend of space-optimizing furniture to offer innovative solutions that help create versatile and efficient living environments for individuals living in limited spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Smartly Designed Compact Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/compact-apartments2.md) - [Cleverly Designed Micro Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cabanon.md) - [Versatile Modular Couches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/transformer-couch-20.md) - [Fold-Out Furniture London Flats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/florin-court-flat.md) - [Sliding Grid-Affixed Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/square-to-square.md) - [Adaptive Furniture Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expand-furniture.md) - [Expanding Three-in-One Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expandy.md) - [Angular Transforming Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optimus-furniture.md) - [Transforming Workspace Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/asytron-furniture.md)
