This exhibition is comprised of the work of a number of artists from around the world. However, the principle inspiration for the project stems from the work of [Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/balenciaga-by-demna). In 2010 Issey Miyake worked with a computer scientist to devise shapes which could transform between [two and three dimensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3daysofdesign-2025). This technique was used to produce a collection called '132.5.' The Pop-Up Generation exhibition plays with one's sense of depth and dimension. In particular, it explores the movement from one dimension to the next. The curator Lidewij Edelkoort explains that the Pop-up Generation exhibition attempts to connect the two-dimensional to the three-dimensional. In this way the exhibition works towards a harmony of perception.
