While many people play ping pong for fun, this event provides a unique opportunity for amateurs to show off their skills and contribute to a good cause in the process. As part of this year's tournament, 36 teams of four will compete to win the 2016 Scotiabank Pongapalooza Cup. While the returning champions Green4Good will be fighting to defend their title, there will also be a number of other prizes up for grabs. In addition, players will also be treated to an array of hors d’oeuvres and refreshing beer courtesy of SPiN. Overall, the aim of the event is to surpass last year's fundraising total of $30,000 for First Book Canada. Pongapalooza ultimately puts a fun twist on traditional fundraising by using recreational ping pong as a way to raise money. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.7/10 - Popularity: 12% | Activity: 1% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Social Good](https://www.trendhunter.com/socialgood) > [Charity](https://www.trendhunter.com/charity) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Charity Ping Pong:** Disruptive innovation opportunity to create unique charitable events that combine recreational activities with fundraising. - **Amateur Competitions:** Disruptive innovation opportunity to offer platforms for amateurs to showcase their skills and compete for a cause. - **Event Fundraising:** Disruptive innovation opportunity to create innovative and engaging fundraising events that go beyond traditional methods. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Nonprofit:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for nonprofits to explore creative ways to raise funds through recreational activities like ping pong. - **Sports and Recreation:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for sports and recreation industries to tap into the growing trend of combining competitive events with charitable causes. - **Hospitality:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for hospitality industry to provide unique experiences for customers by hosting charitable ping pong events and fundraisers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Toronto Social Good Events](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-gatsby-gala.md) - [Toronto Pickleball Clubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fairgrounds-and-quadreal.md) - [NHL Golf Fundraisers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/celebrity-golf-tournament.md) - [Paralympic Fundraising Initiatives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fundraising-initiative.md) - [Chess Club Pop-Ups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knightcap-chess-club.md) - [Exclusivity-Challenging Golf Events](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/golf-town.md) - [Toronto Gastro-Gaming Businesses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oche.md) - [Digital Fundraising Competitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-community-cup.md) - [Inventive Charity Initiatives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spark-financial.md)
