# Re-arrangeable Geometric Furniture The Polyhedra Modular Coffee Table is Inspired by Human Bones By Meghan Young | Published 2011-12-12 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polyhedra-modular-coffee-table References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/polyhedra-modular-coffee-table-by-haldane-martin/) & [haldanemartin.co.za](http://www.haldanemartin.co.za/polyhedra_coffee_table.php) Unlike other pieces of customizable furniture, the Polyhedra Modular Coffee Table looks like a work of art. It takes geometrical shapes that appear to exist predominantly in the scientific world and applies it to the design of this table. Like clouds of molecules, the individuals sections of this table appear to float right before a person's eyes thanks to the use of negative space throughout its base. Designed by Cape Town-based [Haldane Martin](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/superrational), the Polyhedra Modular Coffee Table was inspired by images of human bones seen through microscopes. Rearrangeable into 24 different shapes, it boasts built-in magnets that enables the pieces to attach and detach easily. The designer appropriately and playfully describes it as "[LEGO](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interlocking-living-room-furniture) for grownups." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 5% | Activity: 49% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Geometric Furniture:** Designing furniture with unconventional geometric shapes that looks like a work of art. - **Modular Furniture:** Making furniture that is rearrangeable in multiple different shapes with built-in magnets. - **Customizable Furniture:** Creating furniture that allows for easy attachment and detachment of individual sections. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Industry:** The furniture industry can explore unconventional shapes, modular designs, and customizable pieces that appeal to a wider range of consumers and can be used in a variety of settings. - **Interior Design Industry:** The interior design industry can incorporate modular furniture with unconventional shapes into their designs to create unique and dynamic spaces for their clients. - **Home Decor Industry:** The home decor industry can offer customizable furniture that allows consumers to have a more personal and unique aesthetic in their homes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Customizable Puzzle-Like Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pent-modular-furniture-system.md) - [Dynamic Sculptural Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-transformation-table.md) - [Wavy Sculptural Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-coffee-tables.md) - [Interchangeable Cushion Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/morfius-modular-furniture.md) - [Harmonious Helical Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vortex-coffee-table.md) - [Reversable Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reverse.md) - [Modern Customizable Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/customizable-table-design.md) - [Dynamic Coffee Table Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ryb-coffee-table.md) - [Modular Table Seatings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-table-and-chair.md)
