# Tweakable Side Tables The Poke + Squeeze Tables Invite Unconventional Interaction By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-08-04 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/poke-squeeze-tables References: [designspotter](http://www.designspotter.com/product/2011/08/Poke-Squeeze-tables.html) & [coroflot](http://www.coroflot.com/vislocky/Poke-n-Squeeze-Tables) Most drawers can be opened with the help of a handle or knob, but few require the interaction that these Poke + Squeeze Tables do. The quirky set of furnishings comprise [sculptural cast iron pedestals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bells-whistles), hardwood maple and padauk cubbies and supple dip-molded plastic for the face of each [slide-out compartment](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/taarof-table). It's in the pliable shaping of these peculiar drawers that designer Emily Vislocky altered the familiar language and form of this type of furniture. Each [couch-side stand](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookmarker-table) exists as the other's opposite, as a sort of yin and yang arrangement with respect to their handles. Of the Poke + Squeeze Tables, the former produces a hole through which a single finger must penetrate and pull, while the latter should be pinched to gain a grip. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.9/10 - Popularity: 50% | Activity: 30% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Interactive Furniture:** The integration of unconventional interaction in furniture design opens up opportunities for enhanced user experiences and personalization. - **Sculptural Design:** The use of sculptural elements in furniture design creates visually striking and unique pieces that can serve as focal points in interior design. - **Innovative Drawer Mechanisms:** Exploring alternative ways to access storage compartments introduces new possibilities for improving functionality and ergonomics in furniture. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** The furniture design industry can embrace the trend of interactive and sculptural furniture to create innovative and visually appealing products. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate sculptural furniture pieces to add an artistic touch and create unique and captivating spaces. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can explore the integration of innovative drawer mechanisms to offer customers functional and aesthetically pleasing storage solutions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dynamic Sculptural Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-transformation-table.md) - [Perplexingly Angular Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tadashi-side-table.md) - [Puzzling Geometric Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linked-side-table.md) - [Adjustable Side Table](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/turno.md) - [Intersecting Two-Part Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shaolin-side-table.md) - [Moveable Wave-Inspired Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/side-table-concept.md) - [Playful Accent Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bug-table.md) - [Minimalist Book Storage Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pocket-coffee-table.md) - [Puzzling Removable Tray Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/conceptual-puzzle-table.md)
