# Surrealist Stick Coatracks The Poke Hanger Stands Upright in a Seemingly Unsupported Stance By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-09-30 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/poke-hanger References: [kyuhyungcho](http://www.kyuhyungcho.com/index.php?/furniture/poke-hanger/) Students of modern art history will immediately smile upon learning that the Poke Hanger was inspired by Rene Magritte. Designer Kyuhyung Cho strove to construct a [playful illusion](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hooptical) in a minimalist piece that would enhance and yet simplify your living space. The fundamental structure of the [surrealist hatrack](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dpartment) is based on a broad metal ring at at the bottom, a smaller ring at the middle and a steel pipe that's attached to the two. It slants as it rises up, producing a bit of a gravity-defying position that's actually offset by its stable heavy materials. For more than one clothes hook, simply slide as many [wooden dowels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/charity-hanger) into the Poke Hanger as you require. The bunch of them can be shifted about to accommodate different articles, such as a black dinner jacket and a bowler hat. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 20% | Activity: 22% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Surrealist Home Decor:** Designers can explore creating more home decor pieces inspired by surrealist art to add playful illusions and enhance home living spaces. - **Gravity-defying Furniture:** Furniture makers and designers can experiment with creating pieces that appear to defy gravity while maintaining stability with heavy materials. - **Customizable Coat Racks:** Home furnishing companies can offer customizable coat racks that allow users to adjust the number of hooks and wooden dowels to accommodate different articles of clothing. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can explore creating and marketing innovative furniture pieces based on surrealist art that feature a gravity-defying design. - **Home Decor Retail:** Home decor retailers can add surrealist coat racks and other home decor pieces to their inventory to offer customers a wider range of options for unique and playful home decor. - **Customized Furnishings:** Furniture companies can offer more customization options to their customers, such as customizable coat racks, to provide personalized solutions that meet their specific needs and preferences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Quirky Structural Clothes Hangers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hang-we.md) - [Tripod-Like Garment Racks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/multifunctional-coat-rack.md) - [Geometrically Shaped Hanger Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/triangle-hanger.md) - [Modular Minimal Wardrobe Hangers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/koi-cloths.md) - [Rotating Punctuation Mark Hangers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emotion-hanger.md) - [Open-Concept Clothing Racks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bauhutte-clothes-hanger-rack.md) - [Smiley Clothing Wall Hooks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/itsahook.md) - [Banana-Inspired Clothing Hangers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/banannang.md) - [Playful Monkey-Inspired Coat Stands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monkey-coat-stand.md)
