The unit features a circular aesthetic that takes elements of the actual console into account, but which also calls to mind the first-generation [PlayStation 1](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ps5-anniversary-update) console. This slightly retro, rounded aesthetic could also be compared to the original Discman to pay homage to the way that technology has evolved over the years. The PlayStation 5 concept is also equipped with a range of must-have features including a power supply port along with Ethernet, USB-A for powering controllers, USB-C and a power supply. The top of the conceptual console pops off to reveal the [cooling fan](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-cooling-fan) for easy cleaning as well as the SSD expansion slot for adding additional storage. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.2/10 - Popularity: 90% | Activity: 57% | Freshness: 9% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Compact Gaming Consoles:** Designing smaller, sleeker gaming consoles with improved usability and aesthetic appeal could disrupt the gaming industry by appealing to a wider audience and promoting new use cases. - **Circular Aesthetics:** Exploring alternative design elements with a focus on circular aesthetics could challenge established design conventions and lead to innovative product differentiation in various industries. - **Modular Components:** Creating gaming consoles with accessible, interchangeable parts could revolutionize the gaming industry by providing greater customization options for users and expanding the potential for innovation in console design and production. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Gaming:** Innovative designs for gaming consoles could create new market opportunities and give manufacturers a competitive edge in the rapidly growing gaming industry. - **Product Design:** The trend towards circular aesthetics and modular components could disrupt traditional product design practices, promoting more sustainable, customizable, and innovative products in various industries. - **Consumer Electronics:** Smaller, more efficient, and aesthetically-pleasing consumer electronics designs have the potential to offer customers unique benefits and drive advancements in the industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Powerful Portable Gaming Consoles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playstation-5-handheld-gaming-console.md) - [Minimalist Next-Gen Gaming Consoles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sony-playstation-6-concept.md) - [Pro-Grade Gaming Consoles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sony-playstation-5-pro-concept.md) - [Angular Next-Gen Gaming Consoles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playstation-6-concept.md) - [Industrial Next-Gen Console Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playstation-6-console-concept.md) - [VR-Focused Console Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playstation-5-pro-concept.md) - [Next-Gen Handheld Gamer Consoles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playstation-portable.md) - [Folding All-in-One Entertainment Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playstation-capsule.md) - [Retro-Style Gaming Consoles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playstation-5-30th-anniversary-limited-edition.md)
