# Stackable Modular Playgrounds This Customized Playscapes System Transforms Lots into Playgrounds By Amy Duong | Published 2018-01-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playscapes-system References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2018/01/17/stackable-playscapes-system-transforms-empty-lots-into-playgrounds-amman-design-week/) & [playscapes](https://playscapes.com/) Two architects from Jordan have designed the 'Playscapes system,' a re-adjustable group of "[street furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/adp-bench)" that can transform spaces into playgrounds. It was originally devised to be used in Sarah Abdul Majid and Sandra Hiari's hometown in Amman. With the vision to transform towns, refugee camps and other environments where public spaces or public parks are limited, they crafted the Playscapes system. Constructed from a collection of [simple wooden boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-triennale-museum), the pieces are able to come together to become equipment, sandboxes, seats and serve other functions as well. Assembling the system is relatively simple, due to the lack of tools required to build the playgrounds. Bringing life into empty lots, the Playscapes system is intended to create places of gathering. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 59% | Activity: 30% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Modular Playgrounds:** The Playscapes system inspires innovation in the design and construction of modular playgrounds for public spaces. - **Flexible Street Furniture:** The adaptable design of the Playscapes system suggests the need for more creative and customizable street furniture solutions in urban environments. - **DIY Playground Kits:** The easy assembly of the Playscapes system may inspire companies to create DIY playground kits for at-home use or community events. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Playground Equipment Manufacturers:** The Playscapes system presents an opportunity for playground equipment manufacturers to create customizable, modular playground sets for public spaces and private use. - **Urban Planning and Design:** Urban planners and designers can incorporate the ideas behind the Playscapes system into their work to create more inclusive and engaging urban spaces. - **DIY and Home Improvement Retailers:** The Playscapes system may inspire DIY and home improvement retailers to create and market easy-to-build playground kits for at-home use or community events. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Reconfigurable Modular Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gioco.md) - [Play-Friendly Furniture Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/my-nook-modular-furniture-system.md) - [Abstract Colorfully Vibrant Playscapes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wired-scape.md) - [Sandbox-Like Modular Storage Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-storage-cabinet1.md) - [Generational-Lasting Dynamic Playgrounds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mike-hewson-2.md) - [Landmark-Inspired Sleek Playgrounds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/doha-modern-playground.md) - [Heritage Sound Playgrounds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hornscape-playground.md) - [Kid-Envisioned Urban Environments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-little-big-playmat.md) - [Bright Playful Sport Playgrounds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-and-nike.md)
