# Distancing Playground Concepts Rimbin's Design Helps Kids Play Together But Apart By Laura McQuarrie | Published 2020-05-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playground-concept References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2020/05/19/rimbin-playground-concept-coronavirus-design/) Rimbin was created as an "infection-free" playground concept for a post-pandemic world where many playgrounds have been temporarily closed off to prevent gatherings and the risk of spreading a virus via surfaces. Designers Martin Binder and Claudio Rimmele came together to create the concept that supports space for [safe play](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/welcome-little-stranger) while still allowing kids to keep their distance from others. The entire design resembles a series of water lily pads and is based around [individual play areas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cloudbound) with individual paths between them. Even though kids will be separated by physical distance with this [playground concept design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-boulder-park), there are details like hollow tubes that help to make communication easy. With safety and sanitization in mind, the concept has been imagined in metal. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.5/10 - Popularity: 94% | Activity: 91% | Freshness: 9% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Alpha - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Infection-free Playground Designs:** Opportunity for designers to create playground concepts that prioritize safety and health post-pandemic. - **Individual Play Areas:** Potential for individual play areas in various settings beyond playgrounds, such as outdoor events or recreation spaces. - **Communication-enhancing Design:** Designers can incorporate features that allow for clear communication while maintaining physical distance in various environments. ### Where This Applies - **Playground Equipment Manufacturing:** Manufacturers can innovate by creating equipment that promotes individual play areas and infection prevention in playgrounds. - **Event Planning:** Event planners can incorporate individual play areas and infection-prevention measures into outdoor event spaces. - **Outdoor Recreation:** Opportunity to incorporate individual play areas and infection-prevention measures into public outdoor recreation spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Structural Energetic Playgrounds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/archipelago-playscape.md) - [Generational-Lasting Dynamic Playgrounds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mike-hewson-2.md) - [Nature-Inspired Indoor Playgrounds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sarit-shani-hay.md) - [Explorative Artwork Playground Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-cuddly-playground.md) - [Abstract Colorfully Vibrant Playscapes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wired-scape.md) - [Muscle Loss-Combating Playground Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playground-bench.md) - [Heritage Sound Playgrounds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hornscape-playground.md) - [Kid-Envisioned Urban Environments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-little-big-playmat.md) - [Contemporary Playroom Features](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/randle-wall-climbing-handle.md)
