It involves furniture that appears to be growing right out of the walls they are placed against. In reality, they have simply been covered with white tape, which stretches over them and onto the walls behind them. The Dutch designer was asked to participate in the community based art project located in a livingroom/ gallery in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Altogether, 10 artists and inhabitants were working on this project. Comprised of [picture frames, lamps, tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mise-en-abymes) and more, the PLAY Project by Ka-Lai Chan may look simple, but looks can often be deceiving. Upon closer inspection, it is clear that a lot of precious time was spent meticulously layering every surface with the tape. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.3/10 - Popularity: 98% | Activity: 82% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Ghostly Furniture Installations:** Opportunity for artists and designers to create intriguing and immersive installations using unconventional materials. - **Community-based Art Projects:** Potential for collaboration between artists and community members to create unique and meaningful art installations. - **Precise Tape Layering Techniques:** Emerging trend of using tape as a medium for creating intricate and detailed designs on various surfaces. ### Where This Applies - **Art and Design:** Innovation opportunities for artists and designers to explore new techniques and materials in their work. - **Home Decor:** New opportunities for home decor brands to create furniture and accessories that incorporate unconventional materials and designs. - **Community Development:** Potential for community organizations and artists to collaborate on art projects that enhance local spaces and engage residents. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dynamic Moving-Illusion Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moving-furniture.md) - [Realistic Sketch-Reflective Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drawing-series.md) - [Sizable Chair Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chair-installation.md) - [Fluid Function Art Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-flow.md) - [Sculptural Paper Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragmenti.md) - [Distorted Furniture Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/first-kiss-at-last-light.md) - [Togetherness-Centric Furniture Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shadow-play-collection.md) - [Alternate Reality-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lana-series.md) - [Performance Art Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bio-pop.md)
